**Responsibilities:**
Perform a variety of technical assignments for the Department of Anesthesiology in the clinical setting. Exercise high degree of skill, judgment and a knowledge of the terminology, common procedures and practices of the assigned area, including the set-up of medications and supplies in the work rooms and mobile carts and anesthesia equipment set-up and troubleshooting. Function as an advanced resource and clinical support person for Anesthesiology faculty, residents, CRNAs, and anesthesia technologists. Provide critical staff support to ensure that anesthesia equipment is in good repair and preventive maintenance is completed. Assist in the development and training of lower level technologists.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the care of patients undergoing anesthesia including: preparation of anesthesia equipment prior to the patient's arrival, placement of anesthesia monitors, ensuring the cleanliness of anesthesia equipment, ensuring availability of specialized anesthesia equipment and supplies and the set-up of medications and supplies where applicable. Continuously communicate with anesthesiologists, residents, CRNAs and anesthesia technologists to ensure their needs are met throughout the day. Assist clinicians with difficult intubations and the placement of central line catheters.
Operate the cell-saver machine, keep track of lab reports, and participate in cardiac, liver transplant, vascular, thoracic, trauma, and other advanced surgical cases. Work directly with service-specific faculty Division Chief of designated specialty. Provide on-call coverage.
Provide primary support in ensuring that the anesthesia equipment is in good working order and preventive maintenance is completed. Set up and operate sophisticated equipment and perform advanced troubleshooting. Serve as the key resource person in using and maintaining specialized equipment.
Assist the Chief Anesthesia Technologist in the development and implementation of in-service training programs. Assist in training of staff in the roles and responsibilities of an anesthesia technologist.
Perform anesthesia equipment set up and troubleshooting such as testing Infusion pumps, nerve stimulators, defibrillators, and transport monitors, calibrating anesthesia machines, and attaching fiberoptic bronchoscopes to the video monitor.
Set-up rooms between cases, set-up carts throughout the day and provides full service set up at the end of the day. Work with other hospital units to ensure availability of specialized anesthesia equipment. Perform set-up and support of ectopic procedures for anesthesia care ensuring proper equipment is in place for out-of-OR procedures.
Provide back up to shift supervisor in his/her absence due to vacation or illness. Perform other duties as assigned by the Shift Supervisor, Chief Anesthesia Technologist, or Operations Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A four year college education, including related technical training; or a two year college education which included technical training closely related to this position and two years of experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certification by the registry of the American Society of Anesthesia Technologists or other nationally recognized professional certifying body preferred.
