Job Description
As an Animal Care Technician, you will provide professional husbandry and care to a variety of laboratory animals, including rodents, rabbits, sheep, poultry, and barn housing. You will perform husbandry and health checks for all species on campus, change cages, clean stalls, and prepare animal caging components. Additionally, you will use specialized equipment such as rack washers, autoclaves, steam guns, and skid steers. This role involves working with animals exposed to biological, chemical, and radiation hazards and may include occasional euthanasia of rodents. You will also perform breeding services as needed and begin learning advanced technical skills to support researchers and Gnotobiotics.

This role will be a standard 1st shift working from 6am-2:30pm, Monday to Friday, with rotating weekend coverage. Weekend coverage will decrease in the future, but currently, candidates should expect to work every other weekend. Consultants will receive two days off during the week before their scheduled weekend shift. Work is onsite within different facilities that house the Laboratory Animal Program, comprised of four departments. The role involves working directly with animals and interacting with various team members. Specific tasks are performed in dedicated rooms, and consultants will spend the majority of their time in animal rooms. The team currently cares for about 500 animals.
