Direct supervision is received from higher level Animal Services personnel. Related duties are performed as required. CITY RESIDENCY WILL BE REQUIRED WITHIN ONE YEAR OF HIRE. Typical Work Activities + Cleans and disinfects kennels, cages, runs, cat room, dishes, and floors in the kennel area; + Feeds animals daily, performs routine water checks and ensures each cage has a required identification documentation; + Examines animals for health and safety issues and notifies a supervisor; + Assists with euthanization of animals, as needed; + Performs customer service activities including but not limited to, adoption counseling, escorting customers to the kennel area and answering questions; + Monitors the animal visitation room; + Launders animal supplies and bedding; + Administers medications and vaccines; + Performs census of impounded animals when so instructed; + Completes simple forms both paper and electronic; + Works within records management system; + Attends training; + Disposes of garbage daily; + Observes all safety rules and regulations; + Maintains an attitude that is conducive to a good relationships with other personnel and customers and also promotes trust; + Maintains interior and exterior of facility for safety of employees and public as requested by supervisory personnel; + Performs shelter enrichment activities including participating with canine playgroup sessions. Minimum Qualifications High School Diploma or Equivalent; PLUS three (3) months of full-time experience (full-time or its part-time equivalent) working at an animal shelter, animal hospital, animal boarding facility, or other similar environment involving the care and handling of animals. NOTE: Equivalent verifiable volunteer experience will be accepted in lieu of paid experience if a start date, end date, and hours worked per week are included.
