Animal Surgical Technician
Hiring an Animal Surgical Technician! Job DescriptionWe are seeking a dedicated and experienced Animal Surgical Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will hold a BS in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or a related field, and possess a minimum of 1-3 years of experience working in an animal lab with rats/mice. The role involves preparing surgical areas, assisting with surgical procedures, providing postoperative care, maintaining records, and performing various lab tasks, including PCR for animal colonies. Responsibilities + Prepare surgical area, including preparation and sterilization of surgical instruments and supplies. + Assist with surgical procedures, including administration and monitoring anesthesia. + Provide postoperative care and treatments. + Maintain a variety of animal, procedural, and study records. + Perform needed PCR for animal colony. + Assist in breeding and maintaining rodent colonies. + Assist/Perform various injection and blood draw procedures. + Provide enrichment to rodent colony. + Conduct basic scientific calculations (such as weight volume concentration, molar concentration). Essential Skills + BS in Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biotechnology, or related fields. + 1-3 years of experience in an animal lab with rats/mice. + Experience handling mice and rats. + Experience with mouse and/or animal colony management. + Experience with genotyping samples (tails, ears, etc.). + Experience performing mouse surgeries. + Familiarity with protocol submissions under IRB. + RT PCR/Wet lab experience. Additional Skills & Qualifications + Experience with molecular cloning. + Experience handling ES cells and transgenic mice. + Ability to analyze and quantify data from experiments. + Excellent written and oral communication skills. + Ability to interact productively with lab members and outside collaborators. Work Environment Research lab based in Brooklyn. The work schedule is Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, with rotating weekend work Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday, 9am-5pm. The current team consists of 3 members, with plans to add 1 more animal technician.
