Job DescriptionThe APA Doctoral Psychology Intern participates in a formally designed internship program, which serves as a capstone of doctoral training and education. The internship program consist of a full-time training year, requiring at least 40 hours per week training for no less than 10 months (for school psychology internships) and no more than 12 months duration. In this program, the Doctoral Intern will provide an advanced level of clinical mental health services in both individual and group settings under the supervision of licensed psychologists. Primary duties include crisis intervention, assessment and diagnosis, short-term stabilization, psychotherapy, psychological testing, evaluations, and consultations. Clinical supervision, educational presentations about clinical topics and research activities may also be provided.  Services are based on sound theoretical principles, with knowledge of the special issues and needs of the population served. The incumbent develops strategies for the services provided to meet the multifaceted needs of a diverse population, with attention to the policies and procedures of UH-BH, and is expected to interface with internal and external service providers. This individual will receive required supervised hours under credentialed medical staff. The incumbent will provide service with trauma informed care, universally sensitive to the prevalence of trauma within our population.

Minimum Requirements

PhD or PsyD Candidate in an APA Doctoral or CPA-accredited clinical (preferred), counseling, or school psychology doctoral program; OR a non-accredited school that has had or has been approved for an APA site visitComprehensive Examination successfully completed Dissertation proposal approved by APPIC National Match ranking deadlineCompletion of a minimum of 1000 total practicum hours, of which 250 should be Intervention and Assessment hours and 100 should be Supervision hours Master’s degree (or equivalent) completedCompletion of all required coursework for doctoral degree (other than dissertation/doctoral project)Approval to participate in the APPIC National Match  Must have knowledge of psychiatric terminology, the process of diagnosis, and treatment of psychiatric disordersMust have organizational and leadership skills.Must be able to demonstrate good independent judgment, adapt to new duties and work in a changing environment.Must demonstrate knowledge of the theory and practice of psychotherapy and have basic research skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational ability, and social facility are required for the ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team, and to provide education to staff and in the community. Completion of training as directed through orientation and/or Leadership, Management or Educators in the established timeline for continued employment.
