Job Profile Summary
This role focuses the research, analysis, and performance of tasks within the laboratory, including such focus on research for pathology, histology, and phlebotomy within the lab. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following Laboratory Services duties: Performs a variety of chemical, microscopic, or bacteriologic tests, monitors tests results, ensures test validity, investigates new procedures, and implements quality control programs. A clinical technologist role that has specialized knowledge or skills gained through a combination of vocational education, training, and experience. This role will be most commonly applied to patient care and/or scientific/laboratory jobs. An experienced level role requiring basic knowledge of job procedures and tools obtained through work experience and requiring vocational or technical education. Works under moderate supervision, works through problems of a routine nature, but may at times require interpretation or deviation from standard procedures and communicates information that requires some explanation or interpretation.

Perform assigned laboratory procedures according to department guidelines, standards, and techniques. Maintain equipment per guidelines and ensure quality of procedures. Collaborate with other staff and teams to ensure department goals and expectations are met.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology.
2. Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) or (AMT).
3. Three (3) years of experience Technologist experience in blood bank.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Blood Bank Technologist Certification (ASCP).
2. Blood Bank Specialist Certification (ASCP).
Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
1. Perform aseptic technique to access and maintain ports and access catheters.
2. Perform outpatient blood component transfusions.
3. Perform autologous, directed donor, and research blood collections.
4. Perform therapeutic phlebotomy and isovolumetric reductions.
5. Perform therapeutic leukophereis, plateletpheresis and erythopheresis and plasma pheresis procedures.
6. Perform HPC,A autologous and allogeneic collections.
7. Perform extracorporeal photopheresis techniques.
8. Responsible for monitoring and managing patient care during above procedures and for the recognition and treatment of complications and reactions.
9. Responsible for set-up, prime, operation, and troubleshooting of apheresis and photopheresis equipment utilized during above procedures.
10. Responsible for maintenance and quality control of equipment in accordance with manufacturer's guidelines.
11. Document all aspects of patient/donor care in compliance with the AABB standards, Code of Federal Regulations, and applicable regulatory agencies.
12. Maintain confidentiality of patient/donor records.
13. Complete registration of patients/donors into the admission/BBTS systems.
14. Enter patient/donor charges daily.
15. Responsible for maintaining a clean and safe working environment and to ensure that supplies are stocked and maintained.
16. Responsible for performing and interpreting Quality Control.
17. Participates in professional development and continuing educational activities.
Physical Requirements:
1. Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking.
2. Lifts, positions, pushes and/or transfer patients and equipment.
3. Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching.
4. Frequent exposure to hazardous chemicals, materials, sick patients, bodily substances, noise and possible exposure to radiation, lasers, electric shock, etc.
5. Regularly exposed to the risk of blood borne diseases and other transmissible infections.
6. Contact with patients under a wide variety of circumstances.
7. Subject to varying and unpredictable situations.
8. Handle emergency and crisis situations.
9. Subjected to irregular hours.
Skills & Abilities:
1. Knowledge of standards, equipment, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
2. Ability to collaborate, communicate, and cooperate with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care
3. Good communication skills.
4. Ability to interpret data and make determinations/conclusions.
5. Good computer skills.
