API Product Manager

The API Product Manager will have end-to-end ownership of the Origami's suite of APIs and the API Gateway. They will contribute to the vision and strategy of our API modernization and revenue generation. They will be responsible for identifying customer and market needs, developing a 12-month strategic plan/roadmap that aligns to business goals, and planning and executing to that vision. They are an individual contributor that has end-to-end responsibility for their defined product. The API Product Manager closely partners with Engineering counterparts to solve complex business and client problems that drive solutions that delight our users and clients. The API Product Manager manages product development deliverables, such as requirements documentation, analytics, design reviews, implementation, and delivery.

Responsibilities

Roadmaps and Product Strategy:

Owns the 12-month prioritized thoughtful product roadmap and associated feature-level backlog. Aligns team around delivery of high value business outcomes.Researches and identifies emerging market and technology needs to influence the market roadmap and promote innovation and differentiation.Uses data to validate roadmap prioritization and proposed solution builds. Ensures that we are solving the right problems and that these problems are worth solving.Builds deep business domain and user and client expertise to identify product and market opportunities.Acts as the subject matter expert for their assigned product and market.

 

Backlog Maintenance, Prioritization, and Scrum Team Support:

Participates in quarterly release planning activities, driving direction and prioritization for each quarter.Executes against strong time management and planning to ensure adequate time is allotted for work to move through product life-cycle inclusive of discovery, requirements, design, and architecture. Acts as a ruthless “prioritizer” utilizing product prioritization framework to support constantly prioritized roadmap and backlog while balancing the needs of clients and stakeholders. Performs necessary backlog maintenance to support health, such as identifying escalated feature or bug requests and preparing them for upcoming sprints.Serves as the day-to-day contact for the team on clarification of requirements and drives the teams’ refinement ceremony.Performs functional testing and confirm sprint demos to ensure delivery of quality software.

 

Requirement Creation:

Documents requirements in the form of user stories, translating business requirements into technical requirements, to create a shared understanding with Product and Engineering teams.Validates team’s product & engineering artifacts (User Stories/Acceptance Criteria, Visual Collaboration documents, design documents, etc.) to ensure risks to value, viability, feasibility, and usability are addressed upfront.

 

Business Partnership:

Partners with stakeholders across the organization to align to transparent strategic long-term roadmaps and ensure delivery of the aligned product outcomes.Partners with marketing and operations to provide market and product responses to RFIs.Champions and models Origami Risk’s values (Prioritize Clients’ Trust and Success, Innovate with an Entrepreneurial Spirit, Collaborate and Win as a Team)Other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in technology, business, liberal arts, science, or engineering.5-7 years’ experience in Product Management, including owning a product roadmap and driving Agile processes.Excellent analytical and conceptual thinking skills and a high attention to detailBusiness acumen to identify opportunities, facilitate strategic planning, and use data and storytelling to influence.Ability to balance short term needs with long-term strategy.Strong relationship building skills, including an ability to influence stakeholders and scrum team members.Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) across all levels of the organization.Comfortable with end-to-end ownership of a product through all phases of the product development lifecycle.Experience working in agile methodologies and working on an agile team.Prior Risk Management and/or P&C Insurance experience strongly preferred.Experience owning and building suites of headless APIs Significant understanding of API strategy as a mechanism for a company to achieve its short, medium, and long-term goalsDocumentation of API capabilities at multiple levels, from digestible summaries to leadership, thoughtful roadmaps to internal/external parties, and detailed capabilities and requirements to developers Who We Are
