Job Description
This position leads the applications development team, which is responsible for custom computer applications used in the Legislative Council and supported agencies. This includes development of new applications, maintenance and upgrade of existing applications, and review and implementation of purchased software. This position works with the Executive Director of Information Services to set the direction of the application development team, works closely with the Project Coordinator to organize and oversee projects, and coordinates with the Assistant Director for Infrastructure and Security and the IT Service Manager to synchronize efforts and support for software applications.
The LSB is a non-partisan legislative information and service agency that is part of the Legislative Council. The agency provides bill drafting, research, printing, technology, telecom, and other services to all members of the Michigan Legislature to support the lawmaking process. The IS Division provides bill drafting and amending tools, internet and telephone services, software for consolidated chamber automation, and maintains public and internal websites.
This is a full-time position (37.5 hours per week), Monday-Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Work is performed on-site in our Lansing office. Remote work is not available for this position.

Required Education and Experience
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES
+ Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field or an equivalent level of vocational training and work experience.
+ Ten or more years of experience in software development.
+ Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
+ Displays a collaborative attitude toward co-workers and other Legislative Council staff.
+ Provides high-quality services and products to members of the Legislature and other customers.
+ Acts in a professional manner.
+ Takes initiative in improving one’s knowledge, skills, and judgment to better serve the Legislature.
+ Must be willing and able to work occasional overtime and irregular hours as required.

Leave Time

Deferred Compensation
Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from each paycheck.
Retirement
Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their defined contribution retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match that percentage (up to 3%).
