Job Description
Our client has made a significant investment in their Decatur site, starting up a new brass foundry and introducing a new alloy. They currently manage 172 castings, with plans to increase to about 1,000 different castings over the next couple of years. This department of the machine shop is tasked with re-establishing machining processes for the next 800+ castings. This project has high visibility up to the board of directors, indicating the high pressure and urgency involved.
This department is primarily composed of lathes—79 lathes and 1 CNC mill. The lathes are horizontal, multi-axis machines. The Engineer will need to program, set up, and run new parts, then complete the documentation of the new process as part of a 30-piece capability study. They will need to modify speeds, feeds, and depths due to the new alloy. Writing the new g-code will be basic, similar to using Notepad on a laptop, and editing g and m codes on the machine. The Engineer must be able to perform these tasks independently as the current team is already stretched thin.
