Application Engineer I

Opportunity for an Application Engineer I – Motor Technology to join the Commercial Operations Team supporting customer through their product development cycles. The role is a mix of application engineering and project management for target application needs as defined in Portescap strategic plans. The Commercial Program Manager will actively manage and drive critical projects based on customer requirements timeline as defined in Portescap strategic plans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Map and Scope the technical requirements based on customer’s application and be able to recommend technical solutions with the cross-functional support. This might include calculating and simulating Portescap solutions under customer requirements.Engage with customer to fully understand end-product requirements and make recommendations on motion solutions. Translate the Voice-of-Customer into Voice-of-Design technical requirements.Collaborate with customer and Portescap commercial team to create competitive advantage and value for their end-user.Visit customers at key program milestones to ensure continued fulfillment of customer requirements and understanding of how to gain/maintain competitive lead.Manage customer program and coordinate with Portescap resources through the customer Production Qualification stage, maintain and report on corresponding program status, and coordinate content on CRM tool.Work with cross functional team to ensure financial viability of proposed solution.Support the stage gate process for critical program during development and involve in the presentation of business cases, as part of the Project Planning Group, to the organization for custom-product program investments.Work with cross functional team to develop and present technical-commercial proposals to customers.Collect customer and market requirement trends and work with cross functional team to guide product roadmap.Coordinate with other Program Managers and Application Engineers on related processes.

Critical Competencies

Fluent in English. Additional languages a plus: French/German preferred.Must be able to develop relationships at all levels.Must be able to work closely with R&D teams (Europe, India, North America), PLMs, Global Manufacturing and Quality teams.Strong oral and written communication skillsAbility to set and achieve goals.Strong planning and organization skillsStrong computer skills are required.Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environmentMust be able to manage a flexible schedule, sometimes outside of standard working hours.Negotiation skills/relationship managementStrategic planning, and tactical implementation of strategyCustomer contact & management skillsPricing (strategic pricing planning & tactical deployment)Proficient in Microsoft Office tools (PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Excel)

Education and Experience Requirements

Degree in Electro-mechanical Engineering (preferred), Mechanical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or related discipline is required.1+ years of relevant experienceExperience within the motion control industry is preferred.
