Application Scientist III

JOB SUMMARY:

Your principal responsibility is to create and develop solutions for customer applications across the full portfolio of Sweet categories (especially Dairy, Bakery and Confectionery).  In addition to your immediate Sweet Applications team, you will work closely with all teams across the Technical Function, with specific emphasis within the Sauces & Inclusions team, and strong support to the Sales and Marketing function to help drive delivery of our business objectives and European growth strategy. The role is based in Heverlee (Belgium) but predominantly supports the project needs of our Southern European customer base, principally Italy. 

 

What you’ll do:                                                            

Deliver customer projects (brief-related applications tasks) and fully manage assigned projects, providing market-ready products that meet all defined customer needs. Provide technical input in key business meetings, such as quarterly Sales Meetings For Application needs, act as a key point of contact for selected customers and develop relationships that enable better execution of projects that drive growth in key strategic areas and on occasion lead, customer visits and product presentations when required Prepare and present product-related technical presentations including converting market trends into innovative applications for key customers Communicate effectively through verbal and written platforms with both customers and internal stakeholders at all levels Demonstrate strong technical problem-solving skills and understanding of tuning application recipes that deliver optimal customer solutions Maintain a safe, clean and organized laboratory environment, in accordance with our health and safety policies.  Demonstrable working knowledge of GMP and HACCP principles.

 

What you’ll bring:

Strong knowledge of application equipment and process manufacturing technology for the Sweet market segment (lab and plant scale).  Experience in Ice Cream making essential. Demonstrates good understanding of ingredients science fundamentals, and able to apply this to formulate new creations / modify existing recipes to meet customer requirements, internal tasting needs, and new technology. Demonstrates strong sensory skills (taste, aroma) and ability to modify application recipes to meet customer expectations Ability to prepare and present complex product-related technical presentations in a simple clear format to non-technical stakeholders and customers. Strong organisational and project management skills  Essential: BSc or equivalent in Food Science, chemistry or similar scientific remit.
