Application Support Engineer
Description The Application Support Specialist is responsible for providing timely and effective technical support to end-users of business applications, with a focus on SQL and EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) systems. This role requires a strong understanding of database concepts, EDI standards, and troubleshooting techniques to resolve issues, maintain system stability, and ensure optimal application performance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Provide Tier 2/3 application support: Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to application functionality, data integrity, and system performance. SQL Expertise: Write and execute complex SQL queries for data analysis, troubleshooting, and reporting. Perform data cleansing, migration, and transformation tasks using SQL. Troubleshoot SQL-related errors and optimize database performance. EDI Expertise: Analyze and troubleshoot EDI transactions (e.g., X12, EDIFACT) for errors, mapping issues, and data discrepancies. Maintain and update EDI maps and trading partner information. Monitor EDI transaction flow and resolve any connectivity or data exchange issues. Work closely with trading partners to resolve EDI-related problems. Application Maintenance: Perform routine system maintenance tasks, including backups, upgrades, and patching. Monitor system performance and proactively identify and resolve potential issues. Assist in the implementation of new applications and system upgrades. Documentation: Maintain comprehensive documentation of system configurations, troubleshooting steps, and knowledge base articles. Create and maintain user guides and training materials. Incident Management: Respond to and resolve user incidents promptly and efficiently. Track and document all incidents in the incident management system. Communication: Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing. Collaborate effectively with other IT teams, business analysts, and end-users. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience. Experience: 3+ years of experience in providing application support. 2+ years of experience working with SQL databases (e.g., Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL). 2+ years of experience working with EDI systems and standards (e.g., X12, EDIFACT). Technical Skills: Strong SQL skills, including writing complex queries, data manipulation, and performance tuning. Experience with EDI mapping tools and EDI transaction processing. Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell). Knowledge of networking protocols and concepts. Experience with ticketing systems and incident management processes. Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong customer service orientation. Ability to learn new technologies quickly. Other: Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure) is a plus. Experience with ERP systems is a plus. Requirements • Proficiency in Application Support, including debugging and troubleshooting. • Extensive experience with SQL Queries, including writing and optimizing. • Strong skills in Data Analysis, with the ability to interpret and present data effectively. • Knowledge of EDI - Electronic Data Interchange, including its implementation and maintenance. • Familiarity with software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes and methodologies. • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations to provide 24/7 support as needed. • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.
