Job Description

NREL is currently seeking an Application Support Engineer on the ITS Enterprise Engineering and Support team.  This role will provide a mix of application support and DBA duties to maintain, optimize, and ensure the high availability of our production systems.  As an Application Support Engineer, you will play a critical role in addressing complex technical issues, enhancing system reliability, and continuously improving our software deployment process.

Responsibilities:

Provide 2nd and 3rd-line support for production applications, resolving issues related to performance, functionality, and integration.Serves as an Application Engineering and Support advocate to ITS teams and Application Functional Administrators.Monitor and troubleshoot production systems to ensure high availability and reliability.Automate repetitive tasks to improve efficiency and reduce errors.Develop scripts and automation to detect issues proactively and resolve them before they impact users.Install, maintain, and upgrade applications (COTS) to remain compliant with cyber vulnerabilities.Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring issues and implement long-term solutions.Contribute to security and compliance initiatives, ensuring infrastructure adheres to best practices.Work with cross-functional teams, including development, quality assurance, and DevOps teams, to optimize application support and deployment processes.Provide feedback and guidance to improve application code quality, deployment processes, and documentation.Document troubleshooting processes, incident resolutions, and knowledge sharing to enhance the skills of other team members.Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve application issues raised by internal teams and clients, ensuring swift resolution and minimal downtime.

Basic QualificationsRelevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Applies extensive IS expertise in specific field and has full knowledge of related disciplines. Evaluates new hardware, software, systems tools and applications and makes procurement recommendations. Excellent leadership and project management skills. Skilled in analytical techniques, practices and problem solving. Extensive programming and architecture abilities with various computer software programs and information systems.

Additional Required QualificationsFamiliarity with database management for application setup, troubleshooting and performance optimization.Familiarity with observability and monitoring APM tools.Strong problem-solving skills.Proficient understanding of application system architectures.Experience with SQL (structured query language).

Annual Salary Range (based on full-time 40 hours per week)Job Profile: IT Professional IV / Annual Salary Range: $97,800 - $176,000
