Description: The Application Software Engineer (ASE) capabilities with 8 or more years of experience in the field or in a related area. Serves as the communication bridge between non-technical business users and technical solution developers. The ASE is responsible for analyzing the raw data gathered by the project team, applying the appropriate tools and techniques to create meaningful results. This individual is an active participant in aspects of department assessment, visioning, and reengineering. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks, such as identify and document business requirements. May lead and direct the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Will perform analytical assessments pertaining to the development, enhancement and maintenance of automated computer systems and procedures in a CRM Dynamics environment. The ASE will need to understand the strategic direction of the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) and the supporting IT systems and architectures. The ASE is responsible for adhering to state of Michigan standard development methodologies - the State Unified Information Technology Environment (SUITE), Systems Engineering Methodology (SEM), and Project Management Methodology (PMM). DTMB requires an efficient Application Software Engineer to design and implement. The Full-time, onsite ASE will be responsible performing analytical and programming assignments pertaining to the development, enhancement and maintenance of automated computer systems and procedures in a Client/Server environment. The position also involves the utilization of project management and d systems design in a technical development environment.
The Application Software Engineer must have the following skills and expertise: 1. Application Software Engineer with 8 or more years of demonstrable working experience in application analysis and software design including implementing of medium-to-large scale web-based systems and applications.
2. The ability to work with a technical team and business experts in: a. analysis and design of complex applications, b. Development, testing, debugging and Implementation of the CRM Dynamic applications. c. Ability to execute and validate test plans for applications.
3. Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
4. Detail oriented and able to quickly absorb and apply key aspects of the project.
5. Able to function effectively in a fast paced work environment.
6. Able to handle multiple priorities.
7. Able to deliver against deadlines with reasonable accuracy.
8. Good interpersonal skills; ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
9. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
10. Able to effectively deal successfully with a large variety of management personnel and users.
11. Capability of giving attention to detail while still understanding and dealing with the global aspects of the project.
The Application/Software Engineer is preferred to have the following skills and expertise: a) Ability to conduct training & information sessions, communicate at a level appropriate to the audience, make oral and written reports and presentations. b) Experience with Team Foundation Server c) Knowledgeable on ITIL d) Ability to track and trace requirement utilizing a requirements tractability matrix.
The Application Software Engineer must have the following experience:
1. Application Software Engineer with 8 or more years of demonstrable working experience in application analysis and software design including implementing of medium-to-large scale web-based systems and applications.
2. Experience working with a technical team and business experts in: a. analysis and design of complex applications, b. Development, testing, debugging and Implementation of the CRM Dynamic applications. c. Ability to execute and validate test plans for applications.
3. Five years’ experience acting as the Key interface between business users and technical staff.
4. Five years’ experience responding to a customer issues/concerns, providing detailed feedback and resolution.
The Application Software Engineer is preferred to have the following experience and expertise: a) Minimum two years’ experience, working with SQL in an enterprise environment.
Education Preferred: This position prefers a Master's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other related field. Additionally it is preferred that the Application Software Engineer be a certified project management professional (PMP).
