In this customer-facing role, you will be responsible for the technical development of BASF plastic and microcellular polyurethane (MCU) products on a regional level while coordinating and interfacing globally with all relevant regions as required. Cellasto is a business unit within BASF that designs, develops, and produces parts for automotive OEMs and partner Tier 1s.
Working with our customer’s specifications, an application development engineer will develop a concept using BASF virtual and physical tools and technology to prototype a solution. Following the APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) process, an application development engineer will work with our manufacturing plant to transform that prototype concept into a production part that meets internal and external durability and quality requirements with minimized reject levels. The application development engineer works together as an account team with the regional account manager to meet targets focused on customer strategy, continuous improvement, gross margin, and new business opportunities.
As a Applications Development Engineer, you create chemistry by...Leveraging your education and experience in a scientific discipline, along with your extensive experience in customer product, application and performance requirements, you will develop products made from Cellasto Microcellular Polyurethane which is used primarily in the chassis and suspension areas of a vehicle. These products will specifically include jounce bumpers, top mounts, coil spring isolators, and sub frame mounts associated with chassis and suspension.Utilizing your working knowledge of CAD/CAM, program management, and part design and release experience at the automotive level, you will have program management and design responsibility from initial concept to implementation, including design, APQP verification, DVP&R testing, and ensuring manufacturability.Your knowledge of the global automotive industry and Tier 1 chassis and suspension supplier issues, combined with any experience you may have in automotive part/component design will be a valued asset as you work on projects – the majority of which are automotive and many have global platform requirements.Successfully engaging inside and outside the organization, you will interface with customer contacts (design & release engineers and ride & handling engineers) and collaborate with internal customers such as global sales and marketing, tooling, quality assurance and manufacturing personnel.Demonstrating your well-rounded experience, you will perform additional responsibilities including product testing, tooling design and support of sales.
