**Role Purpose**
Corning designs and manufactures the Tropel® brand of high-end laser-based flatness metrology tools for the measurement of critical surfaces out of the Fairport, NY facility. These tools are used for a variety of high technology applications in a wide range of markets, from semiconductor wafers and lithography photomasks to high performance rotary seals and hydraulics.
The Applications Engineer is responsible for providing technical solutions and support for customers, service engineers, manufacturing, and sales teams. This will require the engineer to become an expert level user of the interferometers and have an intimate understanding of the hardware, software, and the ways that customers use the information generated by the tools. The Applications Engineer also supplies the voice of the customer to the technology and development teams for improvements to the products and new development opportunities.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Coordinate applications development work and sample measurements to support sales efforts
+ Participate in a range of concurrent projects, working cross functionally with sales, engineering, development, and manufacturing.
+ Support of manufacturing team for instrument commissioning and applications specific testing prior to shipment
+ Implement systems for customer management and engagement
+ Monitor and respond to customer requests, troubleshoot issues, and resolve customer concerns
+ Lead voice of customer (VOC) activities and improve VOC processes
+ Troubleshoots material, process, and equipment issues, identifies root cause and implements corrective actions
**Required Education and Experience**
+ Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Physics required
+ Track record of delivering results
+ Demonstrated knowledge in a technical field
+ Ability to effectively manage time for multiple ongoing projects
+ Strong communications skills
+ Customer focused mindset
**Desired Experience**
+ 2+ years of applicable experience preferred
+ Ability to solve multidisciplinary problems (Optics/Electronics/Software/PC)
+ Experience with precision measurement systems and instrument gauge study methodologies a plus
+ Basic knowledge of coding is desirable
+ Collaborates effectively across functions (manufacturing, engineering, commercial, supply chain)
+ Intern or Co-op experience/progressive experience within the field of engineering
+ Project Team Leadership

The range for this position is $64,886.00 - $89,219.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
