Applied AI Researcher Co-op (Summer 2025 - 8 month)
Overview Overview QuickBooks Canada AI team is hiring an Applied Researcher Intern to join our team. The AI team is dedicated to exploring and implementing cutting-edge technologies and solutions that drive innovation within QuickBooks products, focusing on delivering transformative financial tools for small businesses. The mission of the team is to advance AI research to directly influence QuickBooks’ suite of offerings, enhancing the financial well-being of small businesses. In this role, you will work on state-of-the-art AI applications, and contribute to innovative research that empowers small business owners with smarter, more effective tools. We are seeking candidates who are experts in AI, particularly in deep learning and predictive modeling. You will collaborate with a talented team of domain experts, data scientists, and engineers to develop AI-driven solutions that make a meaningful impact on the future of financial technology. What you'll bring Qualifications + Experience with programming languages including R or Python + Proficiency in SQL for data retrieval and processing + Strong understanding of data science, machine learning, and AI fundamentals (e.g. time series modeling, statistical analysis, deep learning, recommender systems, reinforcement learning, NLP techniques, LLMs) + Ability to work with large datasets, including data cleaning and feature engineering + Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) for model deployment and data storage + Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate complex data into actionable insights + Strong communication skills, with the ability to present findings to both technical and non-technical audiences How you will lead Responsibilities + Conduct applied research and development to address key challenges in data science & AI, focusing on predictive modeling and real-time decision-making systems. + Explore and analyze large datasets to identify valuable features and patterns that can improve model performance and better address the specific use case. + Experiment with and enhance ML and deep learning models by incorporating new data sources and innovative methodologies to improve performance and user experience. + Develop, test, and deploy AI solutions to ensure they deliver tangible business value, focusing on key performance indicators such as customer retention, engagement, and overall product effectiveness. + Work on monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track model performance over time, conducting A/B tests and iterative refinements to optimize results and drive continuous improvement. + Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, product managers, and designers, to gather requirements and integrate models into user-friendly products.
