Department Summary: MITRE's “Cyber Defense – Installation to Edge” Department seeks a passionate, talented Information Systems specialist to enhance cyber resiliency in US Air Force (AF) systems. The successful candidate will manage and maintain engineering systems that support development and implementation of cyber resilient software capabilities and platforms across Air Force installation, tactical, cloud, and mission applications. The role involves managing physical and virtual infrastructure across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with information security policies. Responsibilities include maintaining accurate IT asset inventory, monitoring syslogs, troubleshooting hardware and software issues, supporting user account management, and assisting with network configuration. This position also emphasizes proactive issue resolution, documentation of IT processes, and contributing to the stability and security of the organizational systems that our projects, engineering teams and sponsors utilize daily. This hands-on role is designed to provide foundational experience while supporting critical IT operations. In addition to core competencies, this role offers growth opportunities by working across sponsor domains and collaborating to develop solutions and implementation strategies aimed at enhancing quality and accelerating the delivery of software systems to the field. Supporting core infrastructure is closely tied to staying informed about the constantly evolving technical landscape, requiring the ideal candidate to be flexible, adaptable, and capable of quickly shifting across disciplines as needed. This role often involves direct interaction with all systems utilizing this infrastructure. Roles & Responsibilities: + Deploy, manage, and troubleshoot physical and virtual cybersecurity engineering environments. + Enforce and monitor InfoSec compliance in alignment with corporate policies and best practices. + Conduct regular audits of systems and networks to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities. + Configure, maintain, and monitor network infrastructure, including routers, switches, and firewalls. + Troubleshoot system connectivity issues and work independently to implement solutions. + Optimize resource allocation to ensure system performance and scalability. + Document system configurations, procedures, and changes. Basic Qualifications: + Typically requires a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or a similar field and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or an advanced degree with relevant experience who can immediately contribute at this job step; or equivalent combination of related education and work experience + Active Secret clearance + Familiarity with modern information security principles, best practices & management tools. + Hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (particularly VMware and Proxmox) + Strong understanding of networking concepts (e.g., TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls). + Proficiency in system administration tasks for Windows and Linux environments. + Current DoD 8570-compliant certification or the ability to obtain one in a timely manner. Preferred Qualifications: + Experience with Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) + Base tier InfoSec certification such as CompTIA Security+ or equivalent + Base tier network certification such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) + Demonstrated familiarity with automation frameworks, DevSecOps practices, and open-source tools.
