Position Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Appointment Coordinator - Part Time 9AM-5PM; rotating schedule/shifts - Radiology.

In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision, interviews patients to obtain all necessary identification information and prepares the necessary forms to receive services and ensures accurate billing and insurance information is collected. Demonstrates the ability to work with groups of all ages to provide clerical support services taking into consideration the unique physical and psycho-social needs of patients relative to age specific requirements. Interact and communicate effectively with customers. Performs other various clerical duties as assigned by your supervisor.

Job Responsibilities:

•             Properly greets patient.

•             Properly identifies patient.

•             Prepares patient in an appropriate position.

•             Follows IC procedures (Gloves, Hand washing)

•             Properly labels and documents tubes and label sets.

•             Follows policies and procedures for sharp’s disposals.

•             Keeps a clean, neat and professional working appearance

•             Patient left in a safe manner, bed rails up.

•             Correctly inputs results into Novius.

•             Explains procedure and reassures patient.

•             Protects privacy of patient. (Closing curtains etc.)

•             Protects confidentiality of patient.

•             Refers question of patient to appropriate person. (i.e. Nursing, Supervisors)

•             Identifies any additional need of patient and acts accordingly.

•             Reports to supervisor or nursing any unusual condition of patient and document on label set and in computer

•             Identifies his/herself, wears hospital ID badge and clarifies his/her role to patient in an understandable and respectful fashion

•             Understands general computer operation for this area.

•             Prepares document in computer or deletion, addition or changes in order.

•             Properly documents all pertinent patient information.

•             Delivers Separately all STAT requests to laboratory.

•             Relay to supervisor any conflict in specimen identification or labeling.

•             Handles equipment in accordance to laboratory policy.

•             Completes work or explains to coverage appropriate stage of processing and outstanding issues.

•             Knowledge of computer downtime procedure.

•             Ability to handle light stock.

•             Responsible to make sure adequate supplies are in the area.

•             Works collaboratively with other staff to maintain cleanliness of work environment and equipment. (ie. Carts, EKG machine).

•             Assists with prevention of transmission of infection by adhering to Standard Precautions as evidenced by effective handwashing techniques.

•             Recognizes safety hazards and acts promptly and appropriately.

•             Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail for up to 90% of work time when doing computer entry; 95% of work time for filing radiology records; ability to stand and walk for up to 90% of work time when filing or retrieving records, or duplicating film.

•             Ability to lift/carry up to 25 lbs occasionally.

•             Ability to push/pull up to 75 lbs occasionally.

•             Ability to bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulders occasionally.

•             Communicates with Insurance companies to obtain proper pre-authorization and/or authorization when necessary.

•             Provides Patient Bill of Rights, Advance Directive, and other patient education material.

•             Retrieves/Returns voice-mail messages in a timely manner.

•             Obtains adequate medical/insurance information from patient or referral site.

•             Provides/referral site with correct preparation for scheduled examination.

•             Schedules examination in appropriate time slot, coordinating multiple exams.

•             Refers questions appropriately to Supervisors and/or Radiologists.

•             Coordinates patient information with radiology staff, central reg, P.A.T., O.R., etc.

•             Obtains prescriptions as needed; faxes to appropriate areas.

•             Generates retrieval slips for outside storage facilities.

•             Types, distributes daily outpatient schedule.

 

Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify you must have a High School diploma or equivalency with basic literacy and knowledge of general medical terminology.
Ability to read and write in order to review radiology records for completeness, respond to written and verbal requests for patient information.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations for collating and duplicating of radiology records.
Ability to operate computer system and use numerous functions for a variety of tasks.
Good interpersonal skills, including poise, tact and diplomacy, required to handle sensitive situations with internal and external customers.
Analytical skills necessary to maintain filing system, collate radiology records in preparation for reading and so forth.
Must adhere to all HIPPA requirements.

Long Island Community Hospital provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $23.66 - $23.66 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
