Apprentice Facilities Management

Job Description:

This position supports the Facility Management department and operations by performing assigned tasks or assisting with assigned projects and allows the apprentice to gain familiarity and understanding of facilities management in a healthcare setting and work experience with leadership in healthcare facilities management.

The work experience and projects are typically under general supervision of one or more subject matter experts and support Intermountain' s operations, mission, vision, and values.   This experience comes over the course of three summers:

Summer 1 – Typically between the student’s freshman and sophomore year of their facilities management,   engineering, or business degree program:  As a Maintenance Apprentice the position will work as a maintenance engineer or technician’s helper and assist in safely, efficiently, and effectively completing planned work or ad hoc work requests.  The role will gain an understanding the nature of the work the apprentice aspires to direct over the course of their career.

Summer 2 – Typically between the student’s sophomore and junior year:  As a Project Manager the position will work in project management related to facility management and maintenance and may lead and coordinate the completion of one or more projects, such as roofing, parking lot, or equipment replacement.  The role will gain an understanding the nature of the work the apprentice aspires to direct over the course of their career and how the different projects and timelines interconnect and are prioritized.

Summer 3 – Typically between the student’s junior and senior year:  As a Facility Manager Apprentice the position will shadow the work of the facility manager and be assigned to prepare and present trainings and presentations, observe leadership activities and gain an understanding of hospital leadership needs and roles.

An apprentice selected for this program will work for pay 5 days per week, for 10 weeks each summer.  This position is temporary by nature, and is not eligible for Intermountain' s benefits programs, PTO accrual or paid holidays.

Minimum Qualifications

Demonstrated knowledge of basic computer hardware (pc, mouse, monitor, keyboard).Valid driver's license or the ability to travel within the Intermountain system. (Position may often require individual to travel between facilities to provide support)Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.Self-motivated and directed with the ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.Strong customer service orientation with a keen attention to detail.Experience using word processing, spreadsheet, database, internet and e-mail and scheduling applications.Experience in a role requiring effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Students in business or technical areas of study, who are in the first two years of an undergraduate program at an accredited institution. Education is verified.Demonstrated understanding of troubleshooting principles, methodologies, and issue resolution techniques. Demonstrated basic knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.Demonstrated basic knowledge of industry standard word processing and spreadsheet software.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience. 

$16.91 - $23.67
