This is a rare opportunity to join Arizona’s largest and best employer to begin your Acute Care Coding career. Upon successful completion of  our coding apprenticeship program, you will be transferred/promoted to a regular Coding position.

REQUIRES at least one of the following Coding Certification Credentials from AHIMA and/or AAPC:  Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technologist (RHIT) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) in an active status with American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) are preferred, and/or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and/or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification.

A coding assessment will be scheduled after successful completion of interview that will require coding books or access to an encoder.

Equipment is provided by Banner Health upon hire. Must have high speed internet & able to hard wire into internet.

This is a fully remote position and available if you live in the following states only: AK, AR, AZ, CA, CO, FL, GA, IA, ID, IN, KS, KY, MD,MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NM, NV, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, TN, TX, UT, VA, WV, WA, WI & WY.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position works under close supervision of a qualified HIMS Coding professional and conducts work in coding and/or abstracting.

CORE FUNCTIONS
1. Learns to analyze, evaluate and abstract data elements from patient’s electronic records.

2. Learns to assign applicable ICD diagnoses and ICD & CPT procedure codes for all inpatient and outpatient encounters, following all written coding policies and procedures in accordance with Coding Clinic, CPT Assistant and all regulatory CMS compliance regulations.

3. Works as a member of the HIMS team on a variety of assigned projects and tasks.

4. Works under direct supervision under HIMS Coding Management and/or experienced staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge and specialized formal training in medical record keeping principles and practices, anatomy, physiology, pathology, medical terminology, standard nomenclature, and classification of diagnoses and procedures.

Requires at least one of the following: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder – Apprentice (CPC-A), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or other equivalent coding certification through an accredited certificate program such as AHIMA (American Health Information Management Association) or American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).

Must demonstrate basic knowledge of ICD/CPT coding principles and the recommended AHIMA coding competencies. Should be familiar with pharmacologic agents. Effective human relations skills are required for interacting with all levels of hospital staff, physicians, and other contacts. Must have highly developed interpersonal and team building skills.

Must be able to work effectively with all common office software.
