Water Supply and Treatment Division Work Location: 8653 Calaveras Road, Sunol, CA 94586 Water Supply and Treatment Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm About City Distribution Division The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission’s City Distribution Division (Water Department) is responsible for directing approximately 322 employees in the operation and maintenance of the water distribution system within the City and County of San Francisco. These activities include, but are not limited to: operating and maintaining 28 pump stations, 11 reservoirs, 13 storage tanks, 19 regulators as well as other ancillary appurtenances and equipment; installing, repairing and maintaining over one thousand miles of water distribution mains including service connections and meters; four water systems comprised of the Potable, Emergency Fire Water System (EFWS), Recycled and Groundwater;  engineering and designing new main and feeder extensions; managing over 1,000 acres of city owned property and rights-of-ways; and responding to all two-alarm or greater fires to assist the Fire Department in maintaining adequate water volume and consistent pressure while fighting fires. City Distribution Division Work Location: 1990 Newcomb Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94124 City Distribution Work Hours: Monday - Friday 7:00am to 3:30pm About the Port of San Francisco  The Port of San Francisco’s Maintenance Division is responsible for maintaining the Port's seven-and-one-half miles of waterfront property and maintaining the waterfront as a positive connection to the other parts of the City. More than 100 skilled craftspeople are responsible for the preservation and improvement of the Port's fishing harbors, ferry landings, public parks, cargo terminals, piers, promenades and buildings. The overall maintenance performed by the Maintenance Division includes the skilled work of carpenters, electricians, painters, gardeners, iron workers, pile drivers, plumbers, roofers, operating engineers, teamsters, welders, machinists, asphalt workers, sheet-metal workers, stationary engineers and general laborers. The Maintenance Machinist Apprentice plays a key supportive role while training, working closely under the supervision of the Maintenance Machinist to assist with the maintenance, and upgrading of essential harbor infrastructure at the Port of San Francisco. Port of SF Work Location: Pier 50, San Francisco, CA Port of SF Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 6:00am to 2:30pm   Job Summary: Under immediate supervision of a qualified journey-level Maintenance Machinist, the 7327 Apprentice Maintenance Machinist I, assists in performing skilled machinist work, performs apprentice maintenance machinist work as part of a recognized program established by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Union Local 1414, Joint Apprenticeship and Advisory Committee, Maintenance Machinists' Trade. This five-year program involves on-the-job training, related supplemental instruction, and experience with both manual and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine tools. Related supplemental instruction includes both college classroom courses and related instruction that may include employer provided training. All work to be performed and related supplemental instruction are enumerated in the Apprenticeship Standards formulated by said Committee and the apprentice is expected to complete satisfactorily, the training and related supplemental instruction for each type of equipment, process, and procedure and to qualify for advancement to Apprentice Maintenance Machinist II. The role requires physical effort and dexterity, with potential for minor injuries due to working conditions. Essential Functions: 1. Assists with setting up and operating a variety of machine tools, stationary as well as portable manual machine tools and Computer Numeric Control (CNC) machine tools such as mills, lathes, drills, saws etc. 2. Assists with rebuilding, refinishing, modifying, and/or fabricating replacement parts for pumps, generators, cranes, compressors, and pipes lines. 3. Assists with maintaining and repairing a variety of instruments and mechanical equipment, including valves, castings, and various metal parts. 4. Assists with diagnosing, installing, inspecting and testing machinery, parts and equipment. 5. Assists with reading and interpreting schematic drawings, blueprints, and plans. 6. Assists with preparing and maintaining records and forms documenting work performed. 7. Assists with dismantling and assembling light and heavy machines and/or equipment. 8. Assists with manufacturing/fabricating parts based on samples. 9. Class 7327 Apprentice Maintenance Machinist I performs other related duties as required. Education: + Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED or California High School Proficiency Certificate) Experience: + Applicants must be 18 years of age by the end of the selection process*; and License and Certification: + Possession of a valid CA Class C Driver's License SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION 1. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited for the in-person written assessment. The assessment will be administered by Department of Human Resources (DHR) with proctors overseeing the process.
