Connexus Energy has an opening for an Apprentice Substation & Electrical Equipment Technician to assist in the installation, testing, maintenance and repair of all substations, line and associated equipment on the Connexus Energy system to enhance system reliability and safety.
Location:
Work for this position will be performed both on-site at our campus located at 14601 Ramsey Blvd, Ramsey, MN 55303, and within our service territory.
Compensation:
The anticipated hiring range for this union position is between $33.17 and $52.52 per hour in accordance with the union contract. The final compensation offered is based on the union apprentice wage scale, along with the candidate’s experience and skill level. In addition, this position is eligible for an annual bonus with a target payout of 5% of annual earnings based on company performance.
In this position, you will:
+ Check and test system transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, capacitors, power operated equipment, and perform maintenance.
+ Assist with installation and change out of substation equipment.
+ Assist with the testing, installing, maintaining, and programming equipment controls according to factory and industry standards.
+ Assist in the installation and maintenance of SCADA equipment to provide monitoring, switching, and improve outage restoration time.
+ Inspect, test and maintain substation battery banks, chargers, and associated equipment; document results according NERC standards.
+ Assists with disposal and handling of hazardous material in accordance with company guidelines and government regulations. Maintain proper records.
+ Keep accurate records for new equipment and ongoing maintenance and enters this data to company databases.
Need to have:
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Current valid Class D driver’s license
+ Valid health card
Nice to have:
+ Associate degree or vocational diploma in a technical electrical/electronic program or related field
+ Good mechanical skills
+ Basic computer skills
Ability to:
+ read electrical schematics – both AC & DC and trouble shoot this equipment
+ set up, connect, and operate various diagnostic testing equipment, interoperates, and record results
+ obtain knowledge and practice company safety rules procedures and guidelines
Knowledge of:
+ Distribution system operation including substation & line equipment
+ National Electrical Safety Code
Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
+ Works indoors and outdoors.
+ Is exposed to excessive noise on an occasional basis.
+ Ability to stand, sit, walk, bend, twist, balance, kneel and reach
+ Ability to climb a ladder
+ Ability to lift/carry up 85 lbs.
+ Ability to push/pull up to 100 lbs.
+ Ability to grasp hand tools
+ Ability to hear electrical arching
+ Ability to smell electrical burning
