Summary

The primary purpose of the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Academic Services Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Supervisor position is to provide leadership and support to the DI APPs across all of the locations DI APPs serve. The DI APP Supervisor administratively supervises, plans, and coordinates the clinical APP team for Diagnostic Imaging Academic Services. The DI APP Supervisor works effectively with the APP Manager, as well as Institutional, Divisional, and Departmental leadership teams to implement institutional priorities and provide clear direction towards initiatives by clarifying roles and responsibilities, aligning goals, and promoting empowerment of staff. With the APP Manager, the APP Supervisor is involved in strategic planning and implementation of all DI APP clinical and procedural programs across all locations.

Key Functions/ Responsibilities

Engage in in-person and telemedicine patient visits Patient volume will consist mostly of cancer prevention patients Performs comprehensive screening to meet HALs criteria Performs comprehensive medical exams and consents patients for relevant procedures Orders and reviews labs, writes appropriate prescriptions, and other ancillary tests required for patient optimization Assists with pre-assessment, post-assessment, and discharge of procedural patients Works autonomously and collaborates with other members of healthcare team Coordinates the flow of ambulatory procedure cases throughout the Houston Area Locations Assists with scheduling and posting procedural cases as deemed necessary Instructs and counsels patients in preparation for specific procedures Conducts telephone assessments prior to patients undergoing procedures Possibly assisting in procedures as deemed necessary Serves as liaison between all stakeholders, including endoscopy staff and faculty at West Houston and Woodlands locations, and TMC when applicable Assists with the management of quality and safety events related to procedures performed in the center Assists with administrative duties as deemed necessary Actively participates in patient education and performance improvement projects Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION

PA - Required: Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association.
APRN - Required: Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population

EXPERIENCE:

Required: None
Preferred: Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) with 1 year of experience.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:

PA - Required: All of the following:
PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants. Licensed by the Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners.

Must meet the American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS), ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) or PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) if working in one of following department: Pediatrics - Patient Care (113100).

APRN - Required: All of the following: Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing to function as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse. Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) If working in the following departments: Pediatric - Patient Care (113100).

MAY BE REQUIRED:

Eligible to be granted limited prescriptive authority by the State of Texas. Authorization for limited prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing.
