Job Description:

The Student Health Care Center at the University of Florida within the Department of Community Health and Family Medicine (CHFM) is seeking an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our team. This position provides psychiatric assessments, diagnosis, medication evaluations, treatments, follow-up care, and crisis intervention/emergency services for University of Florida (UF) students. The Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner will provide consultation services to the UF Community and maintain clinical records on findings and treatments following the established charting guidelines. Additionally, this position offers regular backup and after-hours psychiatric emergency/urgent duties with other Student Health Psychiatry (SHP) staff as part of 24-hour crisis intervention on-call services.

Clinical:

Conduct psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and medication evaluations for students with various mental health concerns, including multicultural issues, trauma, eating disorders, substance abuse, and gender/sexual minority struggles. Offer treatment, follow-up care, and crisis intervention/emergency services for students in need. Provide psychiatric consultation services to Counseling and Wellness Center therapy staff, Student Health Care Center medical providers, student groups, and UF community members, including Housing and Residence Education, Dean of Students Office, Disability Resource Center, RecSports, University Athletic Association, and UF Police Department.

Documentation:

Maintain clinical records in accordance with established charting guidelines, ensuring accurate and comprehensive documentation of findings and treatments.

Emergency/Urgency Duties:

Provides regular backup and after-hours psychiatric emergency/urgent duties with other SHP staff as part of 24-hour crisis intervention on-call services.

Typical schedule: Monday-Sunday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, 40 hours a week. Hours and days can vary according to the SHP’s needs; Provides evening and weekend telephone on-call consultation as assigned per rotation.

Minimum Requirements:

APRN: Master’s degree with a major in nursing or another health-related area and licensed as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes.

PA: Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) and licensed as a Physician Assistant in accordance with Chapter 458, Florida Statutes.

Preferred Qualifications: Psychiatric ARNP has obtained Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) certification, then subsequent board certification (PMHNP-BC). Psychiatric PA has obtained Psychiatric-Mental Health PA certification, then subsequent board certification. Two years of appropriate experience Adept at dealing with the problems of a college-age population, consultation/outreach, development theories of the adolescent and adult, and being able to understand the individual in the context of a diverse social/cultural milieu.  Should have personal attributes that enable them to facilitate effective interpersonal relationships and communicate with colleagues and patients, as well as a wide range of students, faculty, staff, and administrators.  Experienced in multicultural, trauma, eating disorders, alcohol/substance abuse, gender, and/or sexual minority psychiatric treatment interventions with college student populations.  Demonstrated skill in working well under pressure to prioritize and manage a multitude of clinical situations. Integrative knowledge of EPIC and Titanium medical record systems with the ability to maintain and manage confidential information in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA. Self-motivated, self-directed, highly organized, and detail oriented. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Employment with the University of Florida is contingent upon the results of a criminal background check. Special Instructions to Applicants: This position is not remote.
