Plans and organizes aquatic programs for a variety of age groups, schedules and instructs aquatic classes. Performs related duties as required. Metro's Parks and Recreation Department has something for everyone through its variety of strategically placed facilities and programs. Parks offers cultural arts and fitness classes, dog parks and nature programs and 16,000 acres of open space, including 121 parks and 19 greenways. Ice hockey, sports leagues, art galleries and much more are among the offerings. Parks is a fun place where there's always something going on. This position is frequently required to work a flexible work schedule Typical Duties + Coordinate and monitor the development and delivery of aquatic programs. + Work with staff to plan, develop and establish goals, programs, services and classes to meet the needs of the community/participants. + Recruit instructors, coaches and/or service providers as needed. + Instruct Lifeguard Certification classes. + Train staff on TOSHA Regulations for safety measures. + Perform various administrative functions. + Schedule, coordinate and instruct classes in the area of aquatics. + Work with manager to establish a budget for the program(s). + Schedule, coordinate and conduct meetings regarding special events with outside organizations. + Attend meetings and workshops as needed. + Perform preventative maintenance measures, facility inspections and reports safety hazards to appropriate personnel. + Conduct full panel chemical analysis of pool to meet Health Dept. standards services. + Supervise a staff of full-time, part-time and seasonal employees. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation or related field from an accredited college or university and two (2) years experience teaching swimming or first-aid. Supervisory experience is required. *Additional experience may be considered in lieu of some education* **No substitution will be made for supervisory experience** LICENSES REQUIRED: + Valid Driver License + The American Red Cross Lifeguard Training - CPR for the Professional Rescuer. (Metro Parks will consider certifications earned from other nationally recognized organizations) + Must obtain the Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) within the first six (6) months of employment + Must obtain the ARC Lifeguard Instructor Training Certification within the first twelve (12) months of employment **This position is subject to pre-employment & random drug/BAT testing** Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
