Under supervision of the language program head, the teaching assistant will provide support mainly for 300-400 level language students. This is a non-exempt, temporary part time work-study student position.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Language proficiency level of the GA to be native/near native, or superior.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provides one-on-one practice for all level students.
· Sessions can be online or in-person.
· TA must keep a weekly log of sessions with student names and day/time of the session.
· Logs should be turned into the Assistant to the Academic Deans on a bi-weekly basis when the timesheet is submitted.
· Practice material preparation.
· Proofreading student material for accuracy.
· Other duties as required by the language program head.
Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
· Keyboarding skills of approximately 50 w.p.m.
· Current computer skills, to include word processing, knowledge of internet, email and database management (Excel, Access).
· Solid written and oral communication skills.
· Professional and courteous telephone skills.
· Attention to detail and record keeping skills.
· Skilled command of grammar and spelling.
· Capacity to prioritize and organize work requests and projects, often under pressure.
· Ability to use common office machines such as photocopier, multi-line telephone systems, fax machines.
· Excellent interpersonal skills and public relations skills, including ability to work cooperatively with culturally and linguistically diverse students, clients, staff, faculty, and public.
· Willingness and ability to comply with Institute policies, procedures, and mandates.
This position pays at Level B.
