Arabic Interpreter-Ambassador
Responsible for guiding patients to appointments at the Dana-Farber, providing interpretation during medical encounters (consent forms, diagnoses, discharge plans and any other type of patient-related information), collaborate with providers and staff across the Institute to ensure patient's continuum of care, and connecting patients to appropriate resources. We conduct groundbreaking research that advances treatment, we educate tomorrow's physician/researchers, and we work with amazing partners, including other Harvard Medical School-affiliated hospitals. + Interprets and transmits accurately and in understandable terms, complex medical information from medical providers to patients, including interpretation of consent forms, diagnoses, during medical procedures, discharge plans and any other type of patient-related information. Interprets and transmits accurately and in understandable terms information from patients to medical providers. + Accurately translates brief written statements, such as instructions, medical information, and appointment itinerary into the patient’s preferred language according to level of skill and ability. + Assists patients and clinical providers throughout the hospital system in a professional and courteous manner. + Provides the highest quality of service at each appointment to every patient and if necessary refers/connects the patient to the appropriate resource. + Provides support to patients and staff to ensure continuum of care, i.e. guides patients to various appointments and ancillary services throughout the Institute, makes reminder phone calls, reviews visit summary and patient plan with the patient to assure comprehension, answers questions and connects patient back to Program Manager for appropriate follow-up and referrals. + Prioritizes to meet the needs of the patients and the department in an efficient and competent manner and demonstrates sound judgement in escalating complex issues to manager and/or care team. + Maintains an environment that promotes collaborative work relationships and assists to solve issues or concerns in a systematic way. + Understands and abides by all Published Standards of Practice and Codes of Ethics for Medical Interpreters. + Seeks evaluation, certification and additional training in interpreting, health care practices and beliefs, cultural differences. + Maintains complete and accurate written records of services rendered and statistics of all patient related information. + Performs other duties as assigned. Minimum Education: Bachelor’s Degree with a concentration in a human relations field (i.e., Sociology, Psychology) preferred. Minimum Experience: 1 year of experience working as a medical interpreter. Must have working knowledge of medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology and diagnostic procedures and treatments, as well as the roles of the medical interpreter and the nationally recognized medical interpreting codes of ethic and standards of practice. Must be fluent, both verbal and written, in English and target language. License/Certification/Registration: Certificate of completion of medical interpreter training program.
