Archaeological Field Technician

Position Summary:  Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson (JMT) is seeking a part-time Archaeological Field Technician to assist with Phase I through Phase III archaeological investigations. A Bachelor’s degree in anthropology or a related field and prior experience in all phases of archaeological investigation are required. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in Texas and Southeastern United States. Successful applicants will be considered for anticipated long-term projects in the region. 

 

Lodging (individual hotel room) and per diem will be provided. Drive time to and from the project area will also be compensated.  Rate based on experience, and number of hours per week will be based on project workload.  

 

Compensation is $22.00 - $26.00/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Assist Project and Senior Archaeologists during field work Assist with archaeological survey, involving the hand-excavation of Shovel Test Pits (STPs) and mechanical backhoe trenching. Assist with testing and/or data recovery involving controlled unit excavation work Aid in identifying any pre-contact or historic artifacts encountered during the STPs, backhoe trench, or test unit excavation
