We are seeking skilled and enthusiastic Archaeological Technicians to join our team. As an Archaeological Technician, you will play a crucial role in assisting with archaeological fieldwork for Projects in California and Nevada, with opportunities to work on projects in other states.

 

These are part time temporary hourly positions and hours may vary depending on project-specific workload. Pay rate will range between $26 to $30 per hour and will be based on individual qualifications, education, experience, and assigned project role. Travel expenses are reimbursed per project (e.g., lodging, meals/incidentals, travel, etc.). Lodging is single occupancy.

 

Selected applicants will conduct various types of archaeological fieldwork such as cultural resource monitoring, field survey, testing, and data recovery under the supervision of Principal Investigators. Staff will be expected to work as a team and assist with mapping cultural resources in the field, including collection of GPS data using Trimble units or tablets, digital photography, and identifying and recording artifacts, features, and resources on appropriate state site forms.

 

Your Role:

·         Conduct archaeological surveys, testing, excavations, and monitoring using a variety of field methodologies.

·         Utilize GPS (Trimble; Bluetooth with tablets) units, TerraSync, ArcGIS, and other computer-based programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

·         Complete field and post-field cultural resource site or testing/excavation forms/documents in a timely manner.

·         Prepare and edit technical reports, ensuring strong writing and editing standards.

·         Identify and document a variety of pre-contact and historic material resource types, and flora and fauna.

·         Travel throughout California, Nevada, or other project locations for prolonged field work.

·         Work respectfully, positively, and energetically within a team environment.

·         Safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads.

·         Adhere to health and safety protocols, including First Aid/CPR training.

 

Qualifications:

·         Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology or a closely related field.

·         Completed an archaeology field school.

·         At least 1-3 years of experience in Cultural Resource Management (CRM).

·         Experience with a wide range of field methodologies, including survey, testing, excavation, and monitoring.

·         Experience with the California Department of Parks and Recreation 523 forms and Intermountain Antiquities Computer System (IMACS) forms.

·         Experience with GPS units (Trimble; Bluetooth with tablets), TerraSync, ArcGIS, and other computer-based programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

·         Strong writing and editing skills.

·         Ability to travel for prolonged field work.

·         Self-motivated, respectful of others, positive, energetic, and ability to work and participate in a team environment.

 

Other Requirements:

·         A pre-employment drug screen in compliance with federal regulations is required, along with a physical if needed.

·         Must possess a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record without restrictions.

·         First Aid/CPR training.

 

Additional Information:

·         Please indicate in your application if you have previously been listed as a crew chief or field director on any federal, state, or local government permits.

 

Physical Demands & Work Environment:

·         Has ability to perform bending, kneeling, standing, and lifting and carrying objects weighing 35 lbs. and have a tolerance for working in outdoor environments, including prolonged walking or standing on various terrain in a wide range of weather conditions.

·         Performs manual labor including excavation with shovels. 

·         Availability to work extended field rotations from5 to 10 days at a time.

 

Compensation:

Salary commensurate with experience.

Salary Range: $26.00hr. - $30.00 per hour

 

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience and demonstrated work experience in the above role; skills, certifications, and competencies that align to the specified role; geographic location; and education, as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
