Architect, Platform Engineering

You will lead the evolution of Topgolf’s platform ecosystem, enabling the deployment of scalable, secure, and high-performance applications. This role combines technical expertise, strategic thinking, and collaboration with engineering and other product teams to deliver seamless platform experiences.

Key Responsibilities

Platform Architecture

Design, implement, and maintain a Kubernetes based platform to support running various containerized workloads across many teams and disciplinesUtilize tools such as Ansible, Terraform and Rancher to automate the deployment of our platform across many locations including both on premises and in the cloudUse a cattle over pets approach by making use of tools such as Packer to automate Ubuntu/Debian image builds that can be delivered as VMs or directly to Bare Metal via PXEArchitect high-availability, fault-tolerant, and disaster recovery solutions for Kubernetes environments.Define standards and best practices for Kubernetes usage, cluster management, and governance.Manage network configurations, ingress controllers, and service meshes within Kubernetes.

Development & Deployment

Build and manage robust CI/CD pipelines using tools like Github Actions, Jenkins and Artifactory to enable seamless deployment and automationDevelop infrastructure-as-code (IaC) solutions using tools like Terraform, Helm, and Ansible.Design and implement custom deployments scripts using languages like Python and Bash.

Operations & Observability

Create and enhance monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for Kubernetes clusters and workloads.Ensure platform reliability through performance tuning, load testing,Drive container orchestration and scaling strategies, ensuring optimal resource utilization and uptime through the use of fine tuned health checks.

Collaboration & Leadership

Work closely with software engineering, IT, and product teams to align platform capabilities with business and technical requirements.Lead Kubernetes adoption initiatives and serve as a subject matter expert within the organization.Mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Security & Compliance

Implement and enforce Kubernetes security practices, including role-based access control (RBAC), secrets management, and pod security policies.Ensure compliance with organizational and industry standards for data protection and cloud security.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields.8+ years of experience in platform engineering, DevOps, or infrastructure architecture.Deep expertise in Kubernetes (K8s), including cluster management, security, networking, and storage solutions.Strong proficiency with containerization tools such as Docker.Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid cloud environments.Proficiency in IaC tools like Terraform, Helm, or Ansible.Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and tools like Jenkins and GitHub Actions.Familiarity with observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack, etc.).

Preferred Skills

Experience with multi-cluster Kubernetes management and service meshes.Familiarity with serverless architectures and event-driven systems.Knowledge of database systems (SQL, NoSQL, and distributed systems).Experience with OOP in PythonStrong understanding and experience with the PXE boot process
