Architect Design Manager performs a critical leadership role in the Special Projects Department.
This senior level, licensed, architect design manager with broad experience oversees the highest profile and most complex design projects, including temples. In addition to project responsibilities described below, this role exerts considerable influence on the entire scope of internal design management by negotiating services contracts, tracking performance data, controlling construction costs through design decisions, supervising, mentoring, and developing training and procedures to address identified needs. Makes design presentations and policy recommendations to leadership, provides workload recommendations to the Resource Coordinator, and assists with interviews and negotiations with future staff. Acts as an industry liaison with consulting design firms across the world, assessing interest, capacity and capabilities with firm leadership, making recommendations for project award and negotiating contract fees and scope on behalf of the Church.
A collaborative team player who directs process and schedule, provides constructive critiques and clear direction to consultant design teams on how to achieve approvable and constructable designs that are on schedule and within budget. Responsible for the overall planning, supervision, and execution of the work for temples and other associated buildings, both domestic and international.
Establishes a spiritual tone for the work and reflects Christ-like qualities in leadership and team management. Considered an expert in design and construction, the Design Manager is responsible to establish, direct, and supervise the collaborative design and documentation process of outside consultant architects, interior designers, engineers, and other project specialists, while implementing industry best practices. Able to provide an expert level of professional design and documentation counsel on any Church design project.
