Position Title:Architect III Job Group:Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience. Licensed Architect in the State of Iowa. Preferred Qualifications:Experience working on higher education remodeling projects Experience preparing construction project cost estimates, construction documents, specifications, addenda, and construction administration documents Knowledge and experience using AutoCAD, Bluebeam and Excel Experience understanding and using the IBC - International Building Codes and the ADA - Standards for Accessible Design Experience working with mechanical and electrical engineers and interior designers for coordination of their construction documents with architectural documents Experience preparing a technical submission for State Fire Marshalls Experience working with and understanding environmental health & safety issues Job Description: Summary An Architect III will provide professional architectural services to meet the scope of university requestors for remodeling and renovation projects. This includes the preparation of estimates, construction documents, and specifications for bidding and construction. Completes architectural assignments and tasks independently. May be design lead for small number of staff working on projects. Example of Duties + Interacts with university staff and faculty to develop project scope. + Develops architectural schematic design, design development, and construction documents and management duties for a variety of renovation project types. + Researches and selects materials required for architectural projects. + Coordinates mechanical, electrical, structural engineering, and interior design elements into development of construction documents and specifications. + Prepares final architectural plans to ensure compliance with building codes and ADA requirements. + May supervise student interns working on projects. Level Guidelines• Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals• Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude• Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action• Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems. May provide recommendations regarding problems/issues outside the bounds of defined procedures and practices• Responds to complicated inquiries, provides training, and provides direction to lower-level staff• May provide supervision for one to two other staff (i.e., leads a small work team)• May lead projects for which well-defined practices and procedures may not exist• Provides guidance to students Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
