About the role
This is a unique leadership opportunity to be a part of a dynamic finance team as well as to interact with regional leaders, Facility and Area Managers to further develop Business Decision Support and FP&A capabilities for the South Region.
This is a key role within the Regional Finance Organization directly reporting to the Senior Finance Director of Operations. The Area Finance Lead has direct responsibility to support and lead the Decision Support processes for Operations and Commercial Finance, FP&A Processes including forecasting, budget, long range plan and monthly reporting activities and as well as to serve as the main contact for the Shared Service Center to coordinate all reporting activities with the Facility Senior Management Team on a monthly basis. The role involves providing financial planning support to the Sr Finance Director of Operations, Regional Finance VP, Facility Managers, area assets managers and Regional Chief Operating Officer (COO).
This position supports the Facilities and oversees functional cost centers, drive FP&A and management reporting process for all facilities under its responsibility, annual budget plan, forecasting, outlooks (weekly pulse, financial estimates), Long Range Plan/Long Term Model (LRP/LTM) and will improve and standardize reporting tools across the facilities and the south region. This position will have extended responsibility to oversee monthly reporting activities performed under US generally accepted accounting (US GAAP) principles, internal policies, SOX and procedures.
The Area Finance Lead will be an integral team member of Covanta’s South Region Finance team and will provide support to prepare financial executive level presentations and will support scenario planning and sensitive analysis when required.
Partner with the facility/Regional management in achieving business objectives including financial, operational and commercial.
Support Facility Managers, Area Managers, Commercial Organization, Asset Managers, COO, Chief Commercial Officer and Region Leaders to perform contract reviews, commercial proposals and scenario planning.
Partner with Shared Service Center Organization (SSC) to ensure timely reporting of financial statements for all facilities under his/her responsibility are performed in compliance with US generally accepted accounting (US GAAP) principles, internal policies, SOX and procedures.
Interact with Internal and external auditors to coordinate facilities and SSC to prepare and deliver all documentation required for internal and external audits.
Support Sr Finance Director of Operations, Sr Director Commercial Finance, Regional FP&A and partner with Corporate FP&A as well as Shared Service Center teams to ensure timely, accurate and insightful financial analysis that allow to monitor business KPIs (including collections / account receivables) and enable effective decision making.
Monitor, analyze, and report on consolidated area performance against budget and prior year including financial walk across and bridges to generate insightful analytics for price and volume analytics.
Perform operational statistical and metrics tracking, evaluate financial performance comparing actual results to plans while also making recommendations to obtain goals.
Provides financial support in delivering monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting to monitor targets versus budget and long-term plan. Evaluate financial and operation performance (operational statistical and metrics tracking) and make recommendations to obtain goals. Includes preparing financial reporting packages and explanations.
Develop new analysis views to assist in analyzing financial performance, KPIs, etc., including any special projects and ad hoc request as assigned and required.
Partner with facility managers, regional leaders in forecasting and analyzing area department overhead costs.
Support Sr Finance Director of Operations, Regional FP&A, Commercial Finance and Regional Finance VP to develop systems and processes to support Region’s ability to forecast and budget to meet internal business needs as well as corporate planning requirements including:
Partner with commercial organization to help enhance process to analyze, manage and report revenue results, forecast, and opportunities.
Prepare regional and facility FP&A calendar and support to coordinate FP&A activities at facility level to ensure planning timelines are delivered.
Partner with key stakeholders across the facilities, region and corporate FP&A to develop forecasts and budgets, as well as with accounting teams to deliver monthly closing processes.
Support Region to ensure facility, regional and corporate submissions are met on a timely basis.
Ensure that supporting data and analysis is relevant and accurate.
Support to raise the capabilities of FP&A to become a trusted/value added business partner.
Deliver expense analytics to support cost management allocation, expense reduction and support to improve budget and forecast accuracy.
Partner with Facility Managers and Regional leaders in forecasting, budgeting and analyzing regional and area functional overhead cost.
Participate in weekly morning meeting for each facility under his/her responsibility as well as visit each facility on monthly basis (as per business needs or minimum once per month)
