Duties and Responsibilities: The Ennis post-doctoral teaching scholar position is a 9-month academic appointment renewable for up to an additional three years (four years total). An Ennis scholar teaches three sections of the Augustine and Culture Seminar (ACS) each semester. “Ancients” in the fall and “Moderns” in the spring. ACS enrollment is capped at 17. ACSP cultivates a community of instructors dedicated to meeting the perennial and changing needs of our students through an ongoing program of faculty development activities in which Ennis scholars are expected to engage. Faculty mentorship is provided, including how to teach and assess first-year student writing and seminar discussion. Ennis scholars do not have service expectations, but they are expected to develop their research profiles and there is funding available to post-doctoral teaching scholars at the program, college, and university levels for research and conference travel. Typically, after a one-year probationary period Ennis scholars are eligible to teach for other departments and programs in the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. in a Humanities discipline, or Social Science. Preferred Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a PhD earned within the past five years (applicants who are ABD are welcome to apply but must complete the PhD prior to the time of employment), some teaching experience as the instructor of record and a desire to develop effective, inclusive pedagogy for a diverse student body; a plan to develop their research profile; and, a willingness to explore and teach the Augustinian and Catholic intellectual traditions as well as texts outside of these traditions and of one’s own discipline and areas of expertise.
