Artificial Intelligence Integration Systems Engineer
Description Are you passionate about building the nation’s capability to protect and defend itself? Are you looking to advise government officials on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in aerospace systems? If so, we are looking for someone like you to join our Space Control Systems team at the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) and become our resident AI-expert with our government sponsor! The sponsor desires an in-house expert on AI-enhanced aerospace systems. You would provide guidance to teams and stakeholders on integration of AI into space-based and ground-based systems as well as providing expert review of contractor innovations. APL makes critical contributions addressing the nation’s critical challenges in scientific research and development. APL provides our sponsors with technical experts and advisors in a breadth of areas. This position will focus on AI-enhanced space-based and ground-based aerospace systems. In this position, you will draw on the bench depth of APL, communicating challenges of our sponsors and helping translate our understandings to the sponsors’ stakeholders and teams. As the AI-Integration Systems Engineer, your tasks and responsibilities will include: Applying systems engineering principles to develop, integrate, and evaluate AI-enhanced aerospace systems, ensuring the systems meet operational requirements and government needs. Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of advancements in AI and aerospace technologies. Working with government sponsors, contractors, and APL teams to define/refine requirements, solve complex challenges, and deliver innovative solutions. Working with program management as the primary technical advisor responsible for leading APL sponsor related efforts. Contributing actively to vision and strategy development for emergent efforts and future challenges. Assisting in the development of relationships with the primary sponsors and across the project communities of interest. Coordinating across APL programs and staff to ensure alignment of sponsor related tasks with other related APL programs, as required. Working with program and SES leadership to ensure that the depth and breadth of the project staff technical competencies meet the current and future needs. Fostering collaboration with line management to define and communicate project priorities and address technical risks. Serving as a technical expert and advisor on AI integration in aerospace systems, providing guidance to teams and stakeholders. Bachelor of Science in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline 10+ years technical experience in Artificial Intelligence applications within complex systems. Highly effective oral and written communications skills. Ability to develop and integrate AI within complex systems. Ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical experts. Demonstrated experience in evaluating weapons effectiveness. Hold an active Top Secret clearance with an active SCI access. If selected, you will be subject to a government security investigation, to include a polygraph, and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Masters or PhD in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or related discipline 15+ years of technical experience in Artificial Intelligence applications within complex systems. Experience working Special Access Programs. Current or previous experience with fire control architectures and defensive weapons systems.
