The Department of Visual Arts and Design is actively seeking exceptionally qualified candidates to apply for the Artist-in-Residence position for the academic year 2024 - 2025. This is a 9-month, part-time (20 hours/week), non-tenure track position located on Tarleton's main campus in Stephenville, Texas.
The Artist in Residence creates new works in collaboration with faculty, students, and the community. They will exhibit their creations in a group show at the university or a regional exhibition while engaging with students and art instructors in studio classes and workshops. Supports staff and administration by designing artwork that promotes university activities and enhances the institution's artistic presence. Encourages student creativity by attending student art shows.
Responsibilities:
70% Work directly with the Tarleton State University community on a project that will culminate in an exhibition.
20% Interact with students in the form of lectures, workshops, open studio time, and visits to classes which includes participation in critiques, and other informal conversations.
5% Show support for student creativity by attending student art shows.
5% Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Five years of related experience as a professional artist.
Experience as an emerging or established professional artist or designer.
Demonstrated excellence in professional creative endeavors.
Demonstrated ability to engage with the university community. Recognized reputation in their field.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
Artists and designers whose practices are interdisciplinary in nature, and/or artists who are interested in collaboration with multiple Art courses or other Departments within the university through a hybrid focus (Science, Technology, Engineering, Fashion, Music, Theater, and Agriculture among others.
