Communications, Grants, and Public Programs Internship
The Department of Arts & History (A&H) is Boise’s local cultural agency dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging through accessible and place-based arts and history. Our mission is to cultivate a distinct sense of place that reflects Boise’s rich past, diverse communities, and unique natural setting.
The Communications, Grants, and Public Programs division of the Department of Arts & History provides internal support to the department’s programs (i.e., Archives, Cultural Sites, History, Public Art) and coordinated, effective, and accessible communications, meaningful public engagement, educational and professional development opportunities, and grants with a community-centered approach.
This internship opportunity provides a unique opportunity to develop new leaders in the areas of communications and community engagement, grants and outreach, and education and public programs. We seek bright, enthusiastic interns to join our team in enhancing public access to arts, history, and culture.
Essential Functions
Responsibilities
Interns primarily work one of three roles, with some overlap. Interns will perform tasks in one or all of the following three areas, and responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Communications and Community Engagement Tasks:
+ Assist in a range of social media tactics from researching content opportunities and creating engaging social media content to writing captions and tracking campaign analytics.
+ Assist in writing A&H’s monthly newsletter.
+ Track website content update needs across A&H’s portfolio (e.g., boiseartsandhistory.org, jamescastlehouse.org, ermahaymanhouse.org).
+ Track and archive press coverage.
Grants and Outreach Tasks:
+ Assist in tracking A&H Grant Recipient projects and events for cross-promotion.
+ Assist in supporting the annual A&H Grant program cycle from outreach to the cultural sector and the selection process to preparing notifications and other correspondence.
+ Research outreach opportunities and assist with outreach events.
+ Identify prospective funding sources through foundation databases and other sources.
Education and Public Programs Tasks:
+ Assist in coordinating the delivery of department-sponsored cultural learning opportunities and educational programs.
+ Assist with department-sponsored event promotion.
+ Track program evaluation and assist with measuring and presenting program impact.
Requirements
Required Knowledge and Experience:
+ Experience or interest in a humanities-related field or education environment.
+ Interest and knowledge of the role of public information and outreach in government and society, and/or the role of public funding in government and society, and/or the role of education and public programming in government and society.
+ Ability to stay organized and manage tasks from multiple projects at once.
+ Excellent writing and communication skills.
+ Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
Requirements
Internship Requirements:To be eligible for the City of Boise Internship Program, applicants must be:
+ Undergraduate or graduate students with a strong academic record or who graduated in the last 12 months from an accredited university
+ Majoring in humanities-related studies, communications-related studies, educational-related studies, cultural studies, or related fields.
+ Be able to work 20 hours per week.
+ Be able to commit to the entire 12-week internship program.

19-Hour Temporary
All temporary part-time employees working less than an average of 19-hours per week are not currently eligible for benefits.
4-Month Temporary
All 4-month temporary employees working an average of 40-hours per week will accrue personal leave which can be used during employment.
8-Month Seasonal
In addition to accruing personal leave, anyone in an 8-month seasonal position working over an average of 30-hours per week is eligible for medical coverage.
9-Month Temporary
In addition to personal leave accrual and medical coverage, a position that is classified as a 9-month temporary is eligible for PERSI retirement benefits.
