DCPS is seeking an experienced Aspen SIS Solutions Architect to support the expansion of its Student Information System. Using the most up to date best practices and techniques, the Aspen Solution Architect is responsible for assessing all new requests.
PLEASE NOTE: To be considered for this position, candidates MUST have architect level experience specifically with the Aspen Student Information System (SIS). Candidates without this specific Aspen SIS experience will not be considered and should not be submitted for consideration.
DCPS is seeking an experienced Aspen SIS Solutions Architect to support the expansion of its Student Information System. Using the most up to date best practices and techniques, the Aspen Solution Architect is responsible for assessing all new requests, designing the most optimum solution to address the needs of DCPS program areas.
The Aspen SIS Solution Architect is expected to collaborate with the Aspen Business Analyst and DCPS programs, to design and create the most efficient and cost effective solution, configure, and customize complex features in the Aspen SIS in accordance with the DCPS Enterprise Applications & Data Systems (EADS) application lifecycle standards: implement solution, perform testing, support user validation, document configuration and changes to system, and participate in the deployment of solutions. In addition to designing to fill a particular set of requirements, they will also balance immediate needs with future direction and ensure that work for one project can be leveraged for other purposes as much as possible.
Additional areas of focus include project management support, training and mentoring of staff in Aspen configuration best practices. On top of technical skill, they must have a strong sense of curiosity as a critical part of the role will be to help come up with the future long term vision for EADS in DCPS and contribute to plan out what should be built to implement that vision.
Specific Duties:
1. Works with other EADS teams and DCPS Programs to understand overall DCPS needs as it pertains to the Aspen SIS system
2. Rapid development of proof of concept in Aspen SIS
3. Configure Aspen SIS application
4. Train and mentor Aspen team and Aspen Trainers
5. Creates user-friendly documentation to enrich knowledge base
6. Investigates new technologies and suggests new solutions to business problems
7. Evaluate software to determine the level that it meets the needs of the business today and in the future (design, extendibility, flexibility, integration, utilizes generic business objects/components etc.).
8. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills and Experience
1. Required: 15+ years of professional experience
2. Required: 4+ years of Aspen SIS hands-on configuration
3. Required: 2+ years of experience as an Aspen SIS Solution Architect
4. Required: 2+ years of progressive experience in K12 customer facing in a systems support and/or configuration role
5. Required: Previous Aspen SIS Training experience
6. Required: Thorough understanding of the Aspen Scheduling and Gradebook modules
7. Required: Keen sense of maximizing return on investment, focusing on the 80% solutions rather than a fruitless quest for perfection
8. Required: Strong attention to detail and the ability to translate high level technical and business initiatives and goals into discrete tasks and specific timelines
9. Required: Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to actively listen and draw out the true needs rather than the stated wants of any given stakeholder
10. Required: Superb problem solving skills and troubleshooting abilities
11. Required: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
12. Required: Strong focus on teamwork and developing the skills of DCPS colleagues both technical and non-technical

Responsibilities:
1. Coordinates IT project management, engineering, maintenance, QA, and risk management.
2. Plans, coordinates, and monitors project activities.
3. Develops technical applications to support users.
4. Develops, implements, maintains and enforces documented standards and procedures for the design, development, installation, modification, and documentation of assigned systems.
5. Provides training for system products and procedures.
6. Performs application upgrades.
7. Performs, monitoring, maintenance, or reporting on real- time databases, real-time network and serial data communications, and real-time graphics and logic applications.
8. Troubleshoots problems.
9. Ensures project life-cycle is in compliance with District standards and procedures.
Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:
16+ yrs. planning, coordinating, and monitoring project activities.
16+ yrs. leading projects, ensuring they are in compliance with established standards/procedures
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience.
