Job Description:

The Construction Materials Technician is responsible for the testing of asphalt to ensure adherence to federal, state, and/or customer specifications.  This position works with asphalt plant personnel, construction personnel, and governmental agencies.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (KMI will train/mentor):

Perform asphalt testing and analysisPerform aggregate sampling and testingPerform density testing on asphalt pavementsComplete governmental and customer reports for test resultsCommunicate testing results to the plant, construction personnel, and government agenciesInvestigate customer complaints regarding discrepancies between test results and asphalt receivedOther duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities (KMI will train/mentor):

Strong attention to detailPossess good mathematical skillsKnowledge of asphalt quality control processesExperience with asphalt lab equipmentKnowledge of paving process

Physical Demands:

Lifting asphalt samples +/-50 lbs daily Occasionally requires lifting over 75lbsAbility to stand / walk +/-8 hoursConstruction setting

Work Environment:

Variable working hoursMust be able to travelMust be able to work nights and weekends (shift differential)Must have reliable transportation (mileage reimbursement program included with position)

Qualifications and Experience:

ODOT Level 2 or ODOT Level 3 certification is preferred but not requiredHigh School Diploma.Valid driver’s licenseKnowledge of Microsoft Office applications
