Asphalt Operations Supervisor

Job Summary:


The Asphalt Operations Supervisor is responsible for leading the asphalt processing department of our Asphalt Plant, including management, training and development of hourly employees.

Essential Duties

Safety: Provide a safe workplace through adherence to company safety policies, housekeeping and defined standards of training.
● Models the appropriate safe work practices and prioritizes safety above all other metrics.
● Ensure compliance to safety policies and procedures. Promote a culture of a safe and clean work environment where safety is the highest priority.
● Conduct inspections of plant areas and ensure corrective actions are taken to investigate and resolve safety/quality/reliability/process related issues.
● Champions investigation of safety incidents and root cause analysis to help improve site and processes.
● Lead production crew safety meetings and ensure operator engagement in the plant safety programs.
● Demonstrate a high level of commitment to safety and be a leader in the areas of housekeeping and organization.
● Create and maintain Standard Operating Procedures, job plans, job safety analysis, and safety practices for all operating tasks. Operations: Provide leadership for the asphalt operation and direction to the still yard team on a daily basis.
● Guide and lead the team in operational excellence, quality, cost control, diversity, engagement and regulatory compliance.
● Drive productivity and foster continuous improvement through sound practices including communication of goals, training of operators, operation of machines within established
process specifications, and identification and resolution of production related issues.
● Maximize production efficiencies and minimize yield losses while producing high quality products in a safe manner.
● Troubleshoot and quickly resolve process or machinery issues that are impacting productivity or quality.
● Support and amplify communication between the still yard and the rest of the plant.
● Develop, communicate, and evaluate departmental and individual objectives. Set standards to advance initiatives and growth opportunities for the team. Provide effective employee feedback to employees using the performance evaluation process.
● Monitor and address performance issues including poor attendance in a timely manner.
● Maintain accurate timekeeping for still yard employees and ensure timecards are approved on time.
● Comply with and enforce established quality policies and procedures.
● Manage and plan the still yard and boiler operations.
● Partner with the Production and Logistics Managers to plan weekly/monthly schedules.
● Manage asphalt tank inventories on a continuous basis
● Develop and maintain comprehensive procedures, policies and systems to improve safety, training, quality, and efficiency. Ensure that training programs stay current with equipment and process changes.
● Attend phone calls and/or other SY needs after regular working hours, including the occasional supervisor’s assistance during night shifts and/or weekends.Leadership:

● Sets clear expectations of performance and establishes, communicates, and regularly reviews commitments to make certain milestones are achieved as planned.
● Provides daily management of production data recording systems to ensure accurate inventory and reporting. Audits daily to ensure data accuracy of all inputs.
● Maintains professional and motivating communication skills. Encourage all employees to build strong working relationships and communication through sharing, respect, candor, integrity, innovation, accountability, and fun.
● Contribute to departmental goal-setting and strategic planning initiatives.
● Partner with Human Resources to deliver new hire orientation, training and certification for employees.
Quality: Understand product quality; Use people and systems to drive improved productivity
● Prepare for and lead pre-shift huddle to cover important and relevant topics including safety, quality, and performance.
● Coordinate and facilitate changes to meet the production schedule and customer expectations. Verifies machines set ups are maintained to ensure products produced are produced in spec every time.
● Monitor and enforce all Plant and Company policies and procedures. Implements and documents correction actions as needed.


Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) in Engineering Preferred2 to 5 years of demonstrated experience in an industrial continuous process atmosphere Required3 years as a supervisor or 5 years as a leader in an industrial environment
