Primary Duties & Responsibilities

Production

Lenses are machined to the size requirements of drawings, engineering specifications, and II-VI standard specifications. All parts must be handled in a proper manner as to prevent damage to the parts. Measurement of critical dimensions of the part prior to processing to determine if the part will be within the blank specifications. Responsible for controlling and verifying all part specifications. Parts are routinely measured to guarantee that all parts produced meet specification. Responsible for final cleaning and inspecting parts to ensure they meet all finish and cleanliness criteria. Understanding and utilizing the correct machine setup; selection of correct tooling and adjustment of CNC program. Proper selection of tools, feeds, and speeds. An understanding of the basic cause and effect from typical polishing for errors (e.g. power, irregularity, edge roll, astigmatism) Program setup is performed according to established procedures Process notes are maintained to record key manufacturing parameters and issues for future reference and the following shift. Work instructions are followed. Ensure proper inventory of supplies are maintained in the area. Production activities are wanted accurately. Quality documentation is completed as required and machine maintenance and incident reports are completed when necessary. The operator must be able to work independently to solve minor problems. When appropriate the nature and solution to the problem should be reported to the supervisor or engineer. Develop an understanding for the procedures associated with the testing of fused silica optics. These include all interferometers, Talysurf, New View, and Luphos. Operator should be able to test both spherical and aspheric surfaces. Operator has a thorough understanding of the SatisLoh Software for generating and polishing spherical and aspheric surfaces. Opportunities to multitask and run multiple machines are taken without making errors. Errors and accidents are reported immediately to the supervisor, maintenance, or engineer. Root cause analysis and corrective actions are fully supported.

Teamwork

Promote a positive attitude within the workplace consistent withcompany and department goals Production details must be communicated effectively to eliminate problems at shift changeovers. Management to be notified of any personnel, production, machine, or utility problems. Work with the supervisor in order to set priorities and to determine the work flow in order to meet customer dates.

Special Activities & Training

Complete special activities, projects and tasks as requested by the supervisor. Works with Engineers and Supervisors for continuous process improvement. Trains all new employees.

Housekeeping/Maintenance

All areas are maintained in an organized and tidy manner. Ensure equipment is maintained based on a daily/weekly/monthly preventative maintenance schedule. Maintenance requirements and machine or utility anomalies are reported promptly to the supervisor, maintenance, or engineer.

Environmental Health and Safety

Actively support health and safety programs. Takes quick, responsive action to correct any health or safety hazard found in work areas. Initiates corrective measures within 24 hours of hazard identification.

 

Education & Experience

Education:    High school diploma, proficient algebra skills.

Experience:  >3 years optics manufacturing experience, any of the following is a plus: optics or machine shop experience, machine shop experience, machine operation,       inspection, metrology or Q.A. experience.

Skills

Good mechanical problem solving. Ability to multitask Attention to detail in every aspect of the job Well-developed communication and organizational skills Work with minimal supervision and adjust to daily work requirements Read drawings and production paperwork Team-oriented and self-motivated Competent math skills for unit conversions and scientific notation

Working Conditions

Clean laboratory conditions involving the use of high-precision machines and metrology equipment. The correct safety equipment and personal protective clothing must be employed in all activities. The use of Chemicals such as acetone, acetic acid, IPA, micro 90 detergent, and cerium oxide are required. Standing for long periods.

Physical Requirements

Light lifting not to exceed 25 lbs.

Safety Requirements
