Asset Management - Global Market Strategist - Executive Director - Amsterdam

Our Market Insights team is a global investment strategy group focused on macro-economic issues that impact financial markets. The team formulates and communicates market and economic insights to institutional and retail clients, the media and internal partners on behalf of the global J.P. Morgan Asset Management business. Led globally by Dr. David Kelly and in EMEA by Karen Ward, the team has strategists and market analysts based in New York, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Milan, Frankfurt, Brussels, Melbourne, Tokyo and other locations.

The team delivers their insights via the Market Insights Program, a comprehensive offering to clients including the quarterly flagship, “Guide to the Markets” chart pack, roadshow and webcast as well as other regular webcasts, presentations and publications. The program is currently delivered to clients in 33 countries and 13 languages.

The programs three main objectives are: 

·         To help clients make better, more informed investment decisions;

·         To position J.P. Morgan Asset Management as the leading provider of capital markets & economic insight; and 

·         To help JPM’s sales force gain access to new clients, build stronger relationships with existing clients by adding value to the relationship, and uncover opportunities with clients through an active, ongoing dialogue about capital markets and the economy.

Role Summary:

This role represents an exciting opportunity for you to play a prominent role in one of Asset Management’s flagship teams. While the role is Amsterdam-based, you will be a global market strategist, and should be familiar with (and able to speak to) macro developments around the world. You will be responsible for contributing to the team’s research efforts, and disseminating the team’s views on capital markets and macroeconomic developments to clients, the media and internal constituents. 

You will not only have prior experience either within an investment strategy or market-facing function, but must also be an outstanding presenter, and able to both educate and engage a range of client types and audience sizes. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

·         Participate in the production of regular client-facing materials, including the Guide to the Markets, On the Minds of Investors research papers and the Monthly Market Review.

·         Contribute to the team’s macro and market research efforts, adding intellectual value to the team debate and using data-driven analysis to help inform the team’s views. 

·         Present to clients in-person and virtually to discuss the outlook for the global economy and financial markets. 

·         Play a leading role in shaping the team’s views across a variety of asset classes and share these views in a range of client-facing settings. 

·         Help to educate internal partners on economic and market issues, with a particular focus on how to use the resources available through the Market Insights Program to address these issues and tie them to investment solutions. 

·         Partner with internal investment desks to exchange views and identify opportunities for collaboration. 
 

Required qualifications, capabilities and skills 

·         A strong academic background with a university degree, ideally in economics, finance or a related subject. CFA / CAIA or similar qualifications are a plus. 

·         Fluency in English is required; ability to speak other languages is a plus. 

·         Superb written and verbal communication skills, as well as the proven ability to effectively convey complex ideas with passion and clarity. 

·         Demonstrable examples of research or other materials. 

·         Strong understanding of financial markets and economics; candidate should be well-versed in capital markets history and economic indicators, as well as equity, fixed income, emerging markets, currency, and asset allocation. 

·         Intellectual curiosity and the ability to generate insightful and relevant investment ideas backed by rigorous research. 

Preferred qualifications, capabilities and skills

·         Willingness to travel (including overnight). 

·         Outstanding presentation and written skills. Experience creating engaging, original investment strategy content

·         Familiarity with Bloomberg, Refinitiv Eikon / Datastream is a plus, as are Python coding skills. 

·         Experience in either sell side, asset management, central bank, government or supranational institutions is preferable.

·         Dutch language skills preferred.
