Assistant, Technical

The Technical Assistant is responsible for providing intermediate-level clerical support by performing routine duties as assigned and will work under the direct supervision of a Technical Manager.

What You Will Do:

Creates and maintains databases for technical departments. Maintains daily log-on of submittals. Completes monthly plan counts for Offshore Engineering and Ship Engineering Departments. Assist in technical report analyses (HAZID, HAZOP, QRA, gas dispersion, fluid dynamics analysis,...) Assist in preparing technical reports to identify units posing excessive risk to Safety, Asset and the Environment. Completes Divisional plan count for the Director of Engineering. Maintains sophisticated filing systems for technical departments. Supports technical staff of the department as required regarding project tracking, logging, filing, or responding to client requests, etc. Maintains graphics for technical departments. May assist with the writing and presentation of technical papers and reports concerning areas of expertise and work performed. Performs most of the general office or clerical duties for the assigned technical department, including but not limited to stamping and booking out submittals. May be responsible for maintaining the Technical or Engineering Department library. Learns other complex functions or computer applications in support of an Engineering or Technical Department.

What You Will Need:

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or equivalent (studying Chemical or Mechanical Engineering desirable) A minimum of 0 – 2 years of related experience with qualitative and quantitative studies, CFD modeling as well as human factor engineering; English (Desirable) 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Considerable previous related experience or a combination of education and experience. Ability to learn and understand established procedures and practices. Good arithmetic skills. Intermediate skills required to use office machines or equipment such as ten-key adding machines, calculators, copiers, etc. Ability to understand routine business concepts and instructions. Ability to communicate orally and in writing. Familiar with the ABS Health, Safety, Quality & Environmental Management System.

Reporting Relationships:

Reports to a Manager, Director, or Executive level position. This position has no direct reports.

Working Conditions:

Work is primarily sedentary; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
