Examples of Duties

POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

This is a full-time, managerial position, and days of work and hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. Note: This position is in the “NL” category of employment (non-fixed work week) and individuals in this role have no claim or entitlement to time off or cash compensation for hours worked beyond their normal schedule. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.  It is the policy of the College to grant hour for hour compensatory time off, with advance approval, only when employees are required to work on a holiday.  Time earned must be used within one fiscal year from the time it is earned.


JOB SUMMARY:


Depending on the qualifications and skill level of the successful candidate, this position may be filled at the Assistant Director or Associate Director level.  This position serves as a direct report to the Chief Equity & Diversity Officer (“CEDO”)/Vice President for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion & Compliance and will be responsible for assisting the CEDO in establishing programs and developing policies that cultivate equity, diversity, inclusion and compliance as an institutional and educational resource.  


This position also will have oversight of the College’s Multicultural Center, through which the position will be responsible for the development and implementation of outreach and awareness programs that promote diversity and inclusion for the enrichment of the College’s students, faculty and staff.   


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, serving as liaison to the following multicultural student organizations: the Black Student Union, Ebony Women for Social Change, Organization for Latin Unity, Muslim Student Association, Brothers Making a Difference, Association of Latinos Moving Ahead, Students of Caribbean Ancestry, Filipino American Student Association, United Asian Association, South Asians at Ramapo and the International Student Organization,  coordinating all Heritage Months/Weeks programming with these organizations.  Responsibilities also include working with all of the College’s Cores to develop and implement programs and professional development opportunities focused on diversity, multiculturalism and inclusion.  This position also will be responsible for chairing the Bias Response, Prevention and Education Team, which was implemented in the fall of 2020.  




PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Work with students, faculty and staff, including student groups and campus offices, to facilitate diverse and inclusive programs on campus.Assist the CEDO with providing training and orientation activities for campus constituents on matters pertaining to diversity, inclusion, bias and justice.Oversight of the Multicultural Center and its student employees and interns.Serve as a liaison to the multicultural student clubs and organizations.Work closely with the Student Well-Being Core and the Center for Student Involvement in coordinating equity, diversity, and inclusion and bias training programs for student staff, including Resident Assistants and Peer Facilitators.Plan and implement co-curricular and extra-curricular programs that address the value of diversity, including serving as the lead coordinator for the Cultural Heritage Months/Weeks, such as the Latinx & Hispanic Heritage Month, Black History Month, Black Solidarity Week, Native American Heritage Month, Disability Awareness Month and Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month programs.Work with the Strategic Enrollment, Outreach and Engagement Core, including the Offices of Admissions and Student Success, on programs and services designed to increase recruitment, retention and matriculation of students of Color and students in underrepresented populations, including serving as a representative for the College at recruitment events for students of Color and working with the Office of Admissions to host an annual intercultural reception for admitted students. Work with the Office of Institutional Research and the Office of Student Success to review retention and matriculation data to assist the CEDO with evaluating college policies, programs, and processes related to student persistence and satisfaction. Develop and facilitate mentoring programs for students of Color and students in underrepresented populations. Develop and facilitate mentoring programs for new faculty and staff of Color and work with the Department of Human Resources to facilitate affinity groups for faculty and staff.Develop appropriate information channels to inform students of Color about scholarship opportunities, tutorials and employment opportunities. Serve as a liaison to the Minority Faculty Staff Association. Serve as the Chair of the Bias Response, Prevention and Education TeamPublicize campus diversity and inclusion programming, both internally and externally. Monitor the Equity & Diversity Programs budget, ensuring that programs and services stay within allocations and that all expenditures are consistent with college policies/procedures.Support the Ramapo College Strategic Plan as it pertains to equity, diversity, inclusion and compliance initiatives. Lend support and leadership, as needed, to Title IX and AA/EEO investigations.Supervise the staff (including, but not limited to interns) hired to manage the EDIC and Multicultural Center social media platforms.Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief Equity and Diversity Officer.

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

Must have strong oral and written communication skills

Must demonstrate an ability to work independently and as a team.

Demonstrated leadership, organization and management skills, and a broad portfolio of leadership accomplishments. 

Demonstrated ability and sensitivity in working effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and perspectives.

      Experience conducting conflict management/resolution, intergroup dialogue preferred.


EDUCATION:


Masters degree in a field related to the position. 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

Assistant Director D24 - Two years of professional experience, one year in an administrative capacity, or two years in an education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position (experience may include Graduate Assistant work).  A Ph.D. or an Ed.D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Experience with and understanding of shared governance, diversity, inclusion and equity as critical components of institutional effectiveness is preferred.


Associate Director D25 – Two to four years (3 plus years preferred) of professional experience in an education, higher education or other field that is directly related to the functions of the position (experience may include Graduate Assistant work).  A Ph.D. or an Ed.D. degree may be substituted for two years of the required experience. Experience with and understanding of shared governance, diversity, inclusion and equity as critical components of institutional effectiveness is preferred.

Must work effectively in multi-task/project environment requiring effective time management to organize work and make independent workflow and prioritize decisions with minimal supervision. Demonstrated commitment to the College’s values of equity, diversity, inclusion and compliance.
