Assistant/Associate/Full Professor, Interactive Media and Game Design
Location: Utica, NY Category: Academic Posted On: Mon Sep 23 2024 Job Description: Description of Duties: SUNY Polytechnic Institute's College of Arts and Sciences Department of Communication and Humanities invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant, Associate or Full Professor of Interactive Media and Game Design. The successful applicant will engage in scholarly research and/or artistic practice involving undergraduates and teach classes in our Interactive Media and Game Design program. We are eager to hear from candidates with demonstrated commitments both teaching and research, and a commitment to cultivating diversity in the university and professional work environment. The successful candidate will have a robust agenda for research and/or artistic practice, as well as the ability or interest to teach a variety of courses in our curriculum. We are seeking candidates who can teach courses in game development, and who specifically have expertise in programming (in C++, C#, and other object-oriented languages), UI and UX design, distributed systems, and/or serious games. We are also interested in candidates with interests in mobile platforms, virtual and/or augmented reality and interactivity beyond the traditional games industry. Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply for a Wolfspeed Endowed Chair position, which can be found on the Academic section of our Employment Opportunities . Specific duties, in addition to maintaining an active research program involving undergraduate students, will include teaching three courses and/or studios per semester (3 or 4 credits each). During the first two years of the appointment, a reduced teaching load to include two classes per semester can be anticipated, providing an opportunity to establish a research program and develop courses. Faculty also may use funds from externally-sponsored research programs to reduce their teaching loads. Other responsibilities include contributing to the assessment and continued development of Interactive Media and Game Design courses, and contributing to the University community through committee service and other activities. Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. (ABD considered) or MFA or similar terminal degree in a discipline related to Interactive Media and Game Design, or Mass Communications from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized organization. Applicants for Associate or Full professor with well-established research programs should include in their cover letters a statement on their current program and describe how they would shift their program to SUNY Polytechnic Institute. Applicants for Associate or Full professor with interests in academic administration, including potential appointment as department chair, should include a statement detailing their interest and experiences in academic leadership and curriculum development and assessment.
