Our unique community-based medical school, Boonshoft School of Medicine (BSOM), is affiliated with six major teaching hospitals, two federal institutions, and over 30 other healthcare institutions. Our medical students, residents, and fellows are exposed to a diverse set of patients, practices, and facilities, providing unparalleled learning opportunities.

BSOM’s General Internal Medicine division seeks an academically-minded faculty member to join the core faculty team with duties including: Participating in didactic teaching, journal clubs, clinical case conferences, and other teaching assignments for residents and medical students, as assigned by and in collaboration with the department and BSOM’s academic leadership. Contributing to the division’s clinical/patient care, research, and teaching missions. Clinical teaching, supervision, and patient care on the division’s services, including a combination of contributions to the inpatient teaching service, to community-based clinic sites / FQHC, and within the Wright State Physicians Internal Medicine clinic.


All faculty members enjoy the opportunity for a balanced practice, combining clinical and private practice through the auspices of WRIGHT STATE PHYSICIANS, the practice plan for WSU BSOM. Minimum Qualifications Prior to the effective date of appointment*, successful candidates must have: MD, DO or MBBS degree. Completed Internal Medicine residency. Board Certification in Internal Medicine (or Board-Eligible**) Ohio Medical License Federally-issued DEA License

** Candidates may be approved to onboard as Board-Eligible with a non-negotiable expectation of Board Certification completion as soon as is feasible. Such successful candidates would onboard as Instructors and only move to Assistant Professor after providing documented Board Certification.

Investment into UME/GME efforts (e.g., curriculum development, classroom teaching, simulation center instruction). Research, publications, and grant submissions. Direct supervision of resident learners on general internal medicine inpatient services. Ability to serve as a model for excellence in research and clinical care.


Candidates with any of these tangential and transferable skills or experiences may also be considered favorably: Experience as an identified peer-to-peer trainer, subject matter expert, or ‘power user’ for EHR, quality programming, patient experience, or other shareable expertise. Professional clinical experience with EPIC and/or Athenahealth. Successful history with outreach efforts for academic, research, or clinical projects. Engagement with practice/physician citizenship committees, or a communicated understanding of practice/physician citizenship within academic physician practices. Engagement with other academic or clinical practice committees, focus groups, or organizational leadership. Essential Functions and percent of time: 30% WSU BSOM Learner Education & Research Classroom didactics, with opportunities for curriculum development and course direction as assigned by the Program Director. Participation in resident recruitment efforts, learner evaluations, and mentorship. Baseline protected effort for faculty participation in committees, meetings, outreach, assigned teaching, and other assignments from the Chair and/or Program Director. Opportunities for additional protected effort for academic and clinical research.


25% Inpatient Teaching Service w/ Learners Effort provided to BSOM’s mission within Miami Valley Hospital, on behalf of the Wright State Physicians practice plan and external contracting thereunder, to provide and teach community-focused clinical care and medical leadership. Generate and maintain relationships with physicians from other specialties with interactions with the inpatient service. Facilitate exemplary learning conditions for supervised learners. Provide clinical supervision.
45% Community Outpatient Practice Outpatient clinical practice with community site(s); with and without learners. Portions of effort within a partnered FQHC learner site. Flexible practice options. Motivated individuals may be able to exercise the opportunity for customized practice under the practice plan; pending general prior approval and business planning.
To the extent that core academic obligations are covered, core faculty may explore opportunities to expand portions of effort into areas of funded research or clinical trials, or other professional avenues, pending prior approval and business planning. Clinical site locations require local travel. Office and clinical environments. The Department of Internal Medicine office is located within Miami Valley Hospital, 30 E Apple St, Dayton OH 45409.
