Job Description

Tarleton State University invites applications from individuals with a passion for working with rural and/or underserved communities and the desire to advance the role of occupational therapy in traditional and emerging settings for an Assistant/Associate Professor position for the Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) Program.   The position will be 100% administrative load until the first cohort matriculates.  The load will then be 100% Teaching/Service.

Tarleton State has applied for accreditation with the Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education (ACOTE). The program must be granted Candidacy Status, have a pre-accreditation review, complete an on-site evaluation, and be granted Accreditation Status before its graduates will be eligible to sit for the national certification examination for the occupational therapist administered by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).

Position is located in Stephenville, Texas with work hours of Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm or as work requirements indicate. Must be able to work/teach remotely at the request of the University.

Responsibilities: 

The Principal Faculty of Occupational Therapy Program will:

Develop curriculum following ACOTE guidelines and teach graduate students using transformative learning models

Maintain and monitor lab space

Participate in curriculum design, program evaluation, accreditation responsibilities and holistic application review

Serve on admissions committee for the new program, including facilitating outreach and awareness in community

Participate in interdisciplinary and intradisciplinary curriculum planning

Collaborate and monitor clinical pediatric services onsite and within community

Mentor doctoral level graduate capstone projects

Demonstrate a commitment towards building an accessible scholarly environment

Required Education and Experience:

Completed doctoral degree awarded by an institution that is accredited by a USDE-recognized institutional accrediting body required (or equivalent)

Must have an active Texas state license (or be license eligible) as an Occupational Therapist and possess an initial NBCOT certification

Minimum 3-5 years clinical experience

Rank will be determined by reviewing the faculty member’s record of years of experience and professional achievements in teaching and service research consistent with the Texas A&M system guidance.

Preferred Education and Experience:

Previous teaching experience for an ACOTE accredited occupational therapy education program. However, Occupational Therapists new to academia are encouraged to apply. They will have the opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with active and supportive mentoring and faculty development training.

Experience in rural care and/or underserved populations

Record of scholarly activities/research line and maintenance of credentials

Evidence in responsiveness to current trends in occupational therapy practice and/or education and evidence of professional service at local, state and/or national level
