The Assistant or Associate Professor plays a pivotal role in the Master's Program in Education and Special Education in its various grade bands. Working closely with the Program Chair, the individual is responsible for designing and delivering program courses that focus on teaching STEM, AI and technology in different grade levels, in addition to ensuring overall program effectiveness. The individual will also be responsible for participating in the development of a planned PhD in Learning Sciences for Transformative Leadership. The successful candidate must have a strong commitment to equity, diversity, technology and inclusion in education and special education. In addition to teaching responsibilities, the professor advises and supervises master’s-degree candidates, actively participates in faculty collaborative learning, GSE committees and demonstrates scholarly productivity
Responsibilities Designs, revises, and teaches graduate STEM, AI and technology courses in various programs, in coordination with Chairs and DeanMaintains current knowledge of early childhood, childhood education, middle and high school curricula (NYSED and other), including literacy and mathematicsExperience with assessment and effective teaching methodologies for students with special needs utilizing a variety of instructional delivery methods, instructional and assistive technologies, and educational resources for educational equity and accessSupervises candidates during clinical practiceServes as an instructional leader, facilitating and participating with collaborative faculty teams, course revisions, and developing and sustaining transformative pedagogy in graduate teaching and learning, whether online or in-person.Builds and maintains clinical partnerships with schools and mentors in the K-12 school system, and contributes to the development of a clinically rich teacher education preparation programProvides academic advisement to program candidates and outreach to potential candidatesMaintains a current record of scholarly activities and publications, as well as professional serviceServes on Graduate School of Education committeesSupports and contributes to program level continuous improvement for national/professional accreditationEngages in successful grant writingUpholds the missions and values of Touro University and the Graduate School of Education in both online and in-person contextsAttends three in-person faculty retreats per academic year in September, January, and JunePerforms other duties as assigned, which may include both online and in-person responsibilities QualificationsEducation/ Experience
Earned doctorate in Education, or related field, ABD with anticipated conferral date within one year of hire consideredKnowledge/ Skills/ Abiltiies
Successful PreK-12 Education and Special Education classroom teaching experience of three or more years, working with students who have individual education programs and with diverse studentsSuccessful experience in assessment and data use in the PreK-12 Education and Special Education classroom with evidence of positive learning and development for diverse groups of studentsExperience in course and program designCommitment to culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogyDemonstrated ability for scholarly productivityDesired Qualifications:Evidence of success as an educator preparer at the college or university level in traditional classrooms and onlineExperience using Canvas and other technology in educational settingsActive involvement in professional organizationsSuccessful grant writingExpertise in urban educationExperience with students with multiple special needsKnowledge of school and community-based programs and experience building partnerships in diverse communities is highly desirableExcellent communication, teaching, and interpersonal/intercultural skills across a wide range of mediums (including social media)Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, Power Point, & OutlookProficiency in online learning platforms including Canvas, Adobe Connect, Zoom, Play Posit, Yuja and other digital mediaTravel
