We are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in the following areas of experimental psychology, cognitive psychology, developmental psychology, health psychology, neuroscience, or social psychology. Applicants will teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels but the responsibilities of this position are primarily within the master’s program. The Department of Psychological Sciences offers a PhD program in clinical psychology that uses a scientist practitioner model, a MA program in clinical and experimental psychology, and Major in psychology. The successful candidate will also be expected to maintain an active program of research, seek extramural research funding, and teach graduate level courses in the program. Minimum Qualifications Minimum qualifications for hire vary by rank. -Assistant Professor: Applicants must have an earned doctorate in psychology from an APA -accredited university. ABDs will be considered but applicant must have an earned doctorate in psychology by August 31, 2025. Applicants must present evidence of active research that includes publications in peer-reviewed journals; potential to effectively teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels; potential to supervise and mentor research activities of students; potential to maintain active programmatic research, and potential to obtain external grant funding. - Associate Professor: Beyond the above requirements, requirements include a demonstrated ability to independently conduct programmatic research activities that meet the departmental and institutional requirements for the rank of associate professor with tenure; and a high degree of teaching proficiency and commitment to professional service. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
